(I can't honestly recommend 2.4.18) If you are using 2.4.15 or later then a dncopy -vvvvvvv and/or a tcpdup would help in identifying th problem. patrick |

Hi, I use dnprogs-2.17 on RedHat 7.2. When I try to copy a file from Linux to VMS, dncopy waits for indefinite time without copying the file (copy from VMS to Linux works fine). Could anyone help on this? Thanks, Felix. |

It's simply a matter of which systems I have acess to and how much time I have to do it. I have no intention of discriminating agaist distributions but it's quite a large job keeping up with just one or two these days so I tend to pick Debian (cos I'm a Debian developer) and Red Hat because it's the most common - remember, I do this in my spare time ! patrick |

Hello from Gregg C Levine Question One: The X servers are either for Debian, or for Red Hat. Why nothing for Slackware? As for why Debian, that I understand, one of the folks here, states that he manages or maintains that set of packages. Question Two: I have here, the software for the DOS implementation of the whole DECnet system, this was originally written for the card that plugged into the ISA bus computers that were prevalent at the time. And someplace the software for the cards that were built by Racal under a subsidy, this was for them to take the place of the original ones from DEC. Has anyone here used that software? I haven't, I just collect it. Missed the cards, though. ------------------- Gregg C Levine dr...@wo... ------------------------------------------------------------ "The Force will be with you...Always." Same place as the other Phase IV specs, http://gatekeeper.research.compaq.com/pub/DEC/DECnet/PhaseIV/. At least the V3.0.0 edition is there. I think V4.0.0 was actually the one that came as part of Phase V (not IV as in the title you quoted). Even though it was planned to have the Phase V specs released, it appears not to have happened and it's not clear whether copies of those specs still exist. For that matter, it's not clear if copies of DECwrite, the tool used to create them, still exist. In any case, there wasn't any significant protocol change in MOP between the two specs. The biggest delta I can think of is cleanup around the retry algorithms for clients retrying the "load me" message. paul (former editor of the MOP spec) |

The specs for mop and many other DECnet protocols are online at ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/DEC/DECnet/PhaseIV/index.html The best place to get hold of old DEC equipment (I've found) is ebay or similar online auction sites. Or generous donors if you're as lucky as I seem to be :=) -- patrick |

Hello from Gregg C Levine Okay, Patrick, I agree with you, that something is broken on it someplace. But my Linux box is only wearing one Ethernet card. So that balances. My question was, and still is, "Do you have copies of those documents, that you'd be willing to share? Or know someone who would?" The other question is still that of hardware. Does anyone on this list, have any useful contacts within the used equipment market, regarding the units that are described both here, in this message, (look below), and on the matching websites? ------------------- Gregg C Levine dr...@wo... ------------------------------------------------------------ "The Force will be with you...Always." AIUI the mopd in Linux was originally written for NetBSD so they could boot the VAX port. It was then ported to Linux by I know not whom. Incidentally there seems to be a bug in that version that breaks mopd -a on machines with more than one ethernet card. The Linux/MIPS guys have done some nice mods to it so that it can boot ELF images direct without having to preprocess them first (I forget the URL but I can find it (or provide binaries) if anyone's interested.) I use mopd to boot my DECserver 200 as well as my MIPS DECstation (for some reason Linux 2.4 sets the frag bit on all UDP packets which it doesn't like so I can't use bootp). My LATD package has a moprc program (written from the specs you mention) which allows a Linux user to remotely manage terminal servers and trigger remote boots of machines too. -- patrick |

Hello from Gregg C Levine Darndest thing. It turns out that Red Hat has a workable MOPD daemon. Anyway, I have it installed on a 6.2 system running the 2.2.14 kernel. I know its an older kernel, but that is what it came with, for installation purposes. Are any of you aware of the availability of these documents? "DECnet Digital Network Architecture Phase IV, Maintenance Operations Functional Specification V3.0.0, AA-X436A-TK", and "DECnet Digital Network Architecture Phase IV, Maintenance Operations Functional Specification V4.0.0, EK-DNA11-FS-001". The man page for it, references the manuals. My guess is that the daemon was written originally for the Alpha port of Red hat Linux, and the author decided to bring it to the I386 version. Still thinking about what kernel I should install on that guy, and to track down the right hardware, but you know that one. ------------------- Gregg C Levine dr...@wo... ------------------------------------------------------------ "The Force will be with you...Always." G'Day Could someone please tell me the layers of the SNA and what each do? Or = at least a link to page with this information? Thanks Brendan |
