I notice a few people have complained of strange behaviour when
using "arial.fdb" within Ming. I think that Ming sees it as an ASCII font
where its really a widechar font. this then causes a memory write error in
SWF_buildReverseMapping(SWFFont Font) in font.c
A fix which seems to work is to add the following lines to
loadSWFFontFromFile(File* file) in font.c
after the line:
nGlyphs = readUInt16(file);
add:
if (nGlyphs > 256)
font->flags |= SWF_FONT_WIDECODES;
and then rebuild.
I haven't had a chance to thoroughly look at code and figure out if this is
a long-term valid solution or not, but it at least seems to avoid the memory
problems and I hope it can be useful for others.
Col.

Hi! After install of the /php_ming.so build from cvs I receive the following error message 'undefined symbol: compress2' when I try to load php_ming.so I've just updated to 4.3.1 - with 4.2.3 it was the same. Trying to build into php source breaks after ext/ming/ming.lo: In function `newSWFInput_sock': /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:236: undefined reference to `SOCK_FREAD' ext/ming/ming.lo: In function `getInput': /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:251: undefined reference to `php_file_le_socket' /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:251: undefined reference to `php_file_le_popen' /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:251: undefined reference to `php_file_le_fopen' /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:253: undefined reference to `php_file_le_socket' ext/ming/ming.lo: In function `zif_swfmovie_saveToFile': /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:1788: undefined reference to `php_file_le_fopen' ext/ming/ming.lo: In function `zif_swfmovie_save': /opt/downloads/php-4.3.1/ext/ming/ming.c:1825: undefined reference to `php_file_le_fopen' The perl_ext build & test run fine but a call to movie->output() then quits with: Prototype mismatch: sub SWF::Movie::output ($) vs none at ..//SWF/Movie.pm line 28. i = SWFSprite_add(s, c); The above C code which is given as a reference on the website does not work. The function does not exist. The closest I found in ming.h was void SWFSprite_addBlock(SWFSprite sprite, SWFBlock block) The problem is when I try to use it I get: warning: passing arg 2 of `SWFSprite_addBlock' from incompatible pointer type Any pointers as to a work around for this would be appreciated. Hi! 1. When I try to use my linux created .dbl bitmaps, which work well there on Windows with the actual php.build from kromann.info I receive an unrecognized file type error ??? Are there anywhere windows binaries of the utils? (png2dbl, gif2mask) 2. And is there a way to use the loadSWFFontFromTTF(char *file) function with the php_ext? thanks again, axel |

I'm compiling a bunch of images into an swf file that will act as a canister where I can grab all of the images later on. One of the things is how do I manipulate these images one I've loaded them in. The easiest way would be to work with attachMovie. This requires that the movieclips have an idName. =20 Joshua |

Hi,
I prefer to call ming script right from the browser, i.e. put movie.php instead of movie.swf url
and use code like this in the ming script:
...
header('Pragma: no-cache');
header('Cache-control: no-cache');
header('Content-type: application/x-shockwave-flash');
$movie->output();

Hi! While testing ming movies and actionscripts I often need to restart netscape 4.8 / linux because the browser (plugin) ignores the cache settings: compare always and doesn't reload the swf! So, how to force reloading the swf? Thanks, Axel |

Hi Jushua, at first glance this should work... I have had some fun with loading a library of images INTO another movie and attaching them (in reality these were not images but shapes ... character outlines) but that's a different story Wolfgang >> >> I'm looking around for a good solution for a project I'm working on. >> I'm currently developing a flash client that interfaces with a map >> archive. =20 >> >> http://www.mapjunction.com/places/Boston_BRA/flash.pl >> >> One of the problems I have come up against is the http overhead >> when trying to load multiple small images into the flash client. =20 >> If you check out that site and then click on the "Other Maps"=20 >> button you'll see what I mean. I'm looking around for a good solution for a project I'm working on. I'm currently developing a flash client that interfaces with a map archive. =20 http://www.mapjunction.com/places/Boston_BRA/flash.pl One of the problems I have come up against is the http overhead when trying to load multiple small images into the flash client. =20 If you check out that site and then click on the "Other Maps"=20 button you'll see what I mean. It takes forever to load a large number of small images. What I was hoping for was to generate a server side program that could combine 100+ images into a flash file that I could load in and then duplicate the images onto the stage when needed. Is this a possibility with the ming library? If so could you give me a point in the right direction? I'll probably be coding the=20 server side software in C.=20 I appreciate the help, Joshua |

It turned out to be whatever glyph 0 was in that particular font, or a damaged glyph 1 if glyph 0 is a space. I believe I committed a fix to not run into glyph 1 Wolfgang |

Good morning, I've seen a couple of entries now indicating this problem and decided to add my feedback in as well. Running: W2K-SP2 PHP 4.3.0 MING 0.2.a IE6-SP1 When I attempt to use SWFFont, Internet Explorer doesn't display the page. It appears at that time that the DLLHOST.EXE process is chewing up alot of system resources. What it's doing, I have no way of knowing. One of the posts on this matter indicated that the developer had it = running under PHP 4.2.x with MING 0.2a, but that he had compiled MING himself. I backed up to PHP 4.2.3, MING 0.2.a and had the same results although I I was unable to attempt a compile of my own as I am running under W2K, and the W32 source code seems to be un-available. Also, I have posted a simple problem report on the bug tracker forum, = but as of yet, there has been no followup post indicating it is being looked = into or even that it is a known problem as far as the MING developers are = concerned. Is this being looked into? Is there an alternate method until a fix can be achieved? Are the MING source files available for W32 so I can attempt a compile of my own? I will gladly offer my time as a tester, as I am very excited about the = possibilities that PHP with the MING extensions offer. Regards, Dan |
