The documentation says the position is calculated in "frames", ¿are those frames per seconds? When I play the audio for 10 second it gives around 481000 frames, and I thought it would be 600 (because 60 frames x 10 sec = 600 frames). I saw that number and I said "this is not frames per second". So, ¿what are those frames? If you could give me some mathematical formula to convert those Audiere frames into seconds, because for the project I am working on, calculating audio position in frames is pretty much useless. I do not know if anyone is going to read this. I wish you a good day anyways. |

I never bothered trying to figure out the cause. You might try making a copy of the MP3 file and editing the first bit to silence it and see if that gets rid of the pop. That’s a simple change to see if it’s an artifact like the ID3 tags.

What is it specifically that causes it? I'm attempting to integrate a music player, so editing the mp3 files isn't an option. Is it the ID3 tags being read as music data or what?

I edited the MP3 files that had the blip to fix it, it was only obvious in a couple of files. I’m lazy that way.
You might try decreasing the sound to 0 before starting play and increasing it to the previous level after starting playback and see how that works.

Hi Andrew, Wow, I'm surprised that there's still interest in this library. I haven't done any development on this library in about 4 years, and I don't think Chad has done much with it for a while either. Thanks for your fix. Chad, do you have any problem with integrating this? It's been almost 6 years since 1.9.4. I wonder if it's time to look over all of the things that have been checked in over that time, make sure that the version in trunk is working well, and release 1.9.5. Chad, what do you think? Matt |

I had been looking for a seekable, accurate audio playback library to
replace windows MCI for some time, the ones that stood out being
mpeg123, MadPlay, and fmod. Each had their drawbacks for the project:
mpeg123 being only mp3, madplay GPL only, or license, and fmod a rather
expensive license for commercial applications. Audiere came up in a
search by chance (the word should really get out more!) and is the
perfect solution. After testing 1.9.4 with the vxwidgets based test
program, the only change required to play all of my test files was to
call an ID3 V2 skipper from the initialize() and reset() methods of the
MP3InputStream class because some ID3 tags contain data that looks like
a valid header to the frame seeking component of Audiere mp3 reader. The
skipping code causes the first frame search to begin after the ID3 tags,
now.
Here is that simple code:
void
MP3InputStream::skipID3v2Tags() {
if (!m_file) return;
u8 buffer[32];
int lastPos = m_file->tell();
if (m_file->read(buffer, 32) != 32) {
m_file->seek(lastPos, File::BEGIN);
return;
}
if (strncmp((char*)buffer,"ID3",3) == 0)
{
unsigned int offset = 10; //retrieve the tag size from its
header safe formulation
offset += buffer[9];
offset += (unsigned int)buffer[8] << 7;
offset += (unsigned int)buffer[7] << 14;
offset += (unsigned int)buffer[6] << 21;
if ( (buffer[5] & 16) != 0) //contains 10-byte footer
offset += 10;
m_file->seek(offset, File::BEGIN);
skipID3v2Tags();
}else{
m_file->seek(lastPos, File::BEGIN);
}
}
After this is called in the initialize() and reset() functions, all
seems to be working well, even for files with lyrics and embedded photos.
It now appears that the unreleased version on sourceforge has a
similar fix built in to decodeFrame(), but if it's placed at reset() and
initialize(), it works better because it operates on the file stream
read position, not the read buffer where the tag can be (and often is)
larger than the buffer size of 4kb for the decodeFrame() method.
Cheers
Andrew

(Apologies for cross posting - wasn't sure which was best.)
Hi all,
I'm having major problems compiling libaudieresharpglue (part of Harald
Fielker's C# bindings).
I've opened the project up in VC++ Express 2008 and set the Include and
Library directories to point at the appropriate directories within
"audiere-win32" and yet I still get errors like these:
..\src\outputstream.cpp(8) : error C2065: 'OutputStream' :
undeclared identifier
..\src\outputstream.cpp(8) : error C2065: 'stream' : undeclared
identifier
<snip!>
..\src\audiodevice.cpp(124) : error C2065: 'AudioDevice' :
undeclared identifier
..\src\audiodevice.cpp(124) : error C2059: syntax error : ')'
..\src\audiodevice.cpp(125) : error C2065: 'device' : undeclared
identifier
..\src\audiodevice.cpp(129) : error C2065: 'device' : undeclared
identifier
..\src\audiodevice.cpp(129) : fatal error C1003: error count exceeds
100; stopping compilation
Anyone out there know why this might be happening? I feel like I'm
missing something fundamental.
Regards,
Tom Wright

Hey,
I was just trying to do a source install on my amd64 debian squeeze, and ran into a
cosmetic compile error (first_make_error) from a missing header. I add it in to the top of
the file (#include <string.h>), and then I get (second_make_error). I add that header
(#include <stdlib.h>) in to that file, and then everything compiles and runs just fine.
My wild guess is the configure script's misidentification of my arch ("unknown") results
in #ifdef baddness, but my C days are largely behind me. Since I have the issue resolved,
I'd prefer not to spend much more time on this, but figured a report was my responsibility
as a user.
Generally, the configure/make/make install works for me on this computer, so while a
configuration error on my end is certainly possible, it's not easy to find. The errors are
in audiere.h and debug.cpp, respectively.
Thanks for the software, it's quite useful.
Best,
Alex

I can see taking that line out, except for a single issue: I imagine it will break the ID3 tags, since I think mpg123 reads them during the scan? - Jason Andrew Gatt wrote: > Jason, > > Thanks for the updates, i'll test out the library over the next week in > my program and let you know if find anything. > > I don't think we need to support the old FLAC interface, just use the > configure scripts to check that the build system has a later version of > the library. > > I'm also interested in using the libmpg123 library. Jason, Thanks for the updates, i'll test out the library over the next week in my program and let you know if find anything. I don't think we need to support the old FLAC interface, just use the configure scripts to check that the build system has a later version of the library. I'm also interested in using the libmpg123 library. Looking through the docs on the mpg123 library if you don't scan the file first it will estimate the length, so if take out line 79 of input_mpg123.cpp, this should just work? I need fast play times not accurate lengths, but i'm not suggesting this needs to be commited i just wanted to check i hadn't missed something if i change it. Regards, Andrew Jason A. Alright, I'm just coming on board here, but I did commit a massive
update to the SVN as detailed below. Any problems or issues, let me know!
- Jason
Audiere at revision 695:
- Modified the audiere header to support a define called:
AUDIERE_STATICLIB, which removes all the dll specifiers from ADR_CALL
and ADR_DECL.
- Modified all the MPAUDEC source and input_mp3.cpp to respect a
define: NO_MPAUDEC, which will disable the internal MPaudec code and
then active the libmpg123 code.
- FLAC 1.2.1 does not support the out-dated interface being used by
Audiere, so I fixed that up and replaced the input_flac.cpp. This
probably breaks compiling with the old version, do we really need to
support both modes?
- Added getDecoder() virtual function to SampleSource, which returns
the decoder type and implementation as so "<format>:<decoder>". For
example: "ogg:standard" and "mp3:mpaudec".
- Added /#include <stdio.h>/ to utility.cpp, we used sprintf(), but
no request for the standard io header? Madness!
__________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4299 (20090802) __________
The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

Hello, I'm using Audiere in my game project and I had a crash in a released version. The crash happened inside of an "OpenSound" call and I want to see why it happened. Unfortunately, I can't find any audiere.pdb file along with the compiled dll. If I compile Audiere myself the pdb is mismatching with the released dll. Can anyone that has the audiere.pdb file associated with the audiere.dll 1.9.4 release send it to me? Thanks in advance and sorry for the sloppy english. This is possible. When I added the glue dll I was a bit lazy. Audire also have nice Callbacks for "end of sample" or "end of buffer" this also could be passed thru the C# world. The C++ stuff isn't the hard part. I have to check up the .Net Interopt docs for passing a C callback to the C# world. I know this is possible, but I never did this before. In a Win32 enviornment you can create a mixed managed/unmanaged code dll. This might be easier. I used the glue dll way to make it work with Mono, too. Also the current port lacks of a Visual Studio 2008 project file. Please send me an email if you want a specific API. -- Bye, Harald Fielker |

Hi Guys I have used the excellent C# bindings by harald fielker and can now access some audiere calls from a WinForm application. However, I have a strange set of requirements where I need to be able to play an MP3 from a byte[] array. My C++ is more than a little rusty these days so I am struggling to achieve this in the "glue" dll. Does anyone have a customised wrapper that provides this functionality already or have any ideas how this would be achieved? Thanks Gee |

Hi Antonin, this is not a problem with Audiere, but with OSS. I added ALSA support recently so you could use the latest revision from the SVN repository. Hi, I've got a problem using Audiere : when I open a device (with OpenDevice() ) while another program is using the sound (like a music player), I got an error : "/dev/dsp: Resource or device busy." If there isn't any program using sound, the device opens correctly and I can play sound. Is there any arguments for the function OpenDevice() I can use to solve this problem ? Thanks, Antonin |
