QSD is not dead

It has been a very long time since there have been any signs of life in QSD. Unfortunately, real life took over and I haven't had much free time to do any development. Since May I've taken a position at VA Linux Systems and have moved to California. Everything is settling down now and I hope to ramp up development on QSD again.

For the past two weeks or so, I've taken a good, hard look at 0.1.1 and decided that some major fixes need to occur. So the next release will be an almost complete rewrite. This rewrite is about 40% done right now. I expect to have the new code available via CVS in a week or two. Anyone who is interested in helping out with the server, modules or client should send an email to me (rhavyn@users.sf.net).

QSD Development Update

QSD 0.1.1 has successfully gone out the door, so now it's time to figure out where development is going to head. There is still some key functionality which is not there yet (the biggest being per user restrictions on rcon commands) and there are tons of small things to do here and there.

I've decided, however, to not start on any new functionality right now. There is a substantial amount of cruft in the code right now, and there are some very fragile areas. So for the next couple of weeks, I'm going to be combing through the code to add some robustness to the entire thing as well as clean up the problem spots.... read more

QSD 0.1.1 Released!

It's taken a while, but QSD 0.1.1 is officially out. This release should be fairly usable in a low volume environment, for beta testing and for writing modules and clients.

Some of the goodies include:

* Beginnings of a client library and a small client which uses it.

* Correctly handles starting a server.

* Correctly handlse sending an rcon command.

* Bugfixes galore.

Now, stop reading and go get it.

New Website and updates

First off, I'd like to thank my wonderful girlfriend for developing the new QSD website. If anyone has any feedback on the new look, finding your way around, etc. drop me a note and either I will handle it or I will pass it off to her.

Next, unfortunately I didn't get the 0.1.1 release done yet. Development has continued, however, and 0.1.1 should be out in the next few days (for real this time). Because of the delay, the start of a client library and a small client that uses it will make it into 0.1.1 along with all the features in the QSD 0.1.1 Release Plans. Again, if anyone has an interest in writing a nice, full blown client, please let me know.... read more

QSD 0.1.1 Release Plans

Over the past week or two, development of QSD has been progressing steadily and it's getting to be time to release something again. Version 0.1.1 will be a milestone release for QSD as it will actually perform some commands. In particular, the major features of this release are:

* User validation through a username/password pair (a module for doing authentication through PostgreSQL will be provided).... read more

Assorted updates

The QSD source code has just been imported into CVS. This move has been prompted partly by development happening at a more rapid pace and partly because it may encourage people to contribute. =)

In other news, the request parser is starting to act like a request parser. So starting tonight or tomorrow, I'll be working on a simple authentication module. With an authentication module added, all that is left for an alpha release is a server module. Which means be on the lookout for some usable code real soon now.

QSD 0.1 released

QSD 0.1 is being uploaded as I type this. This release isn't significantly different from 0.0 but (I hope) the backend stuff has stabalized some and incoming connections are now properly accepted. Please remember, tho, this is a developers only release. QSD is currently not usable. For anyone who is interested in helping out, http://qsd.sourceforge.net has a list of the most important features that need to be implemented before QSD becomes usable. ... read more

First Source Release!

Source code is finally available. Please note that although this code will compile and run on at least Linux, it is not functional. A good deal of working code is there, however, and I want to get this out so that anyone interested can have a look and help hack on qsd.
