About PHDL

PHDL was developed in the Brigham Young University Configurable Computing Lab under the supervision of Dr. Brent Nelson by students Brad Riching, Richard Black, and Joshua Mangelson.

Initial funding for the development of PHDL during the period May 2011-October 2012 was provided by Sandia National Laboratories under PO Contract 1125274, sponsored by Sandia Corporation (a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation) as Operator of Sandia National Laboratories under its U.S. Department of Energy Contract No. DE-AC04-94AL85000.

PHDL Versions

The original version of PHDL (v 1.0) was a basic but fully functional implementation. It was based on ANTLR and Java.

Version 2.0 introduced hierarchy into the language.

Version 2.1 entailed the creation of an Eclipse plug-in. This version of the language introduced named design packages (a form of namespaces) into the language to simplify the management of device libraries. The Version 2.1 grammar was written in Xtext.

PHDL Web Sites

The originally-developed website for PHDL was at http://phdl.sourceforge.net. That has now been replaced by this wiki.
