ALL adapters on eBay are now counterfeit. Genuine ones cost over $1000 so
even used ones go for such prices.

I also bought a, of course fake, Keysight one and it didn't work either.
even the usb ID are wrong

For the non compatible counterfeit NI GPIB-USB-HS adapters it would be nice if the driver detects it and refuses to load with an appropriate error.There are a lot of these now on the selling platforms, so I guess there will be more and more users that will face this problem and do not know why it does not work.PS:Greg Kroah-Hartman notes the GPIB code is about ready to graduate to the main area of the Linux kernel.https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-6.16-StagingI am thrilled, thanks to all contributors to get GPIB into the Kernel - that will help a lot of people!Best regards, Michael
