VeraCrypt
Open source disk encryption with strong security for the Paranoid
VeraCrypt is a free disk encryption software brought to you by IDRIX (https://www.idrix.fr) and based on TrueCrypt 7.1a. It adds enhanced security to the algorithms used for system and partitions encryption making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks. It also solves many vulnerabilities and security issues found in TrueCrypt. This enhanced security adds some delay ONLY to the opening of encrypted partitions without any performance impact to the application use phase. This is acceptable to the legitimate owner but it makes it much harder for an attacker to gain access to the encrypted data. macFuse
FUSE extends macOS by adding support for user space file systems
macFUSE allows you to extend macOS's native file handling capabilities via third-party file systems. As a user, installing the macFUSE software package will let you use any third-party FUSE file system. Legacy MacFUSE file systems are supported through the optional MacFUSE compatibility layer. As a developer, you can use the FUSE SDK to write numerous types of new file systems as regular user space programs. The content of these file systems can come from anywhere: from the local disk, from across the network, from memory, or any other combination of sources. Writing a file system using FUSE is orders of magnitude easier and quicker than the traditional approach of writing in-kernel file systems. Since FUSE file systems are regular applications (as opposed to kernel extensions), you have just as much flexibility and choice in programming tools, debuggers, and libraries as you have if you were developing standard macOS applications. -

The Deduplicating Warp-speed Advanced Read-only File System. A fast high compression read-only file system for Linux and Windows. DwarFS is a read-only file system with a focus on achieving very high compression ratios in particular for very redundant data. This probably doesn't sound very exciting, because if it's redundant, it should compress well. However, I found that other read-only, compressed file systems don't do a very good job at making use of this redundancy. See here for a comparison with other compressed file systems. DwarFS also doesn't compromise on speed and for my use cases, I've found it to be on par with or perform better than SquashFS. For my primary use case, DwarFS compression is an order of magnitude better than SquashFS compression, it's 6 times faster to build the file system, it's typically faster to access files on DwarFS and it uses less CPU resources. -

onedriver is a native Linux filesystem for Microsoft OneDrive. onedriver is a network filesystem that gives your computer direct access to your files on Microsoft OneDrive. This is not a sync client. Instead of syncing files, onedriver performs an on-demand download of files when your computer attempts to use them. onedriver allows you to use files on OneDrive as if they were files on your local computer. Easily sync files between any number of Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. You can setup your phone to auto-upload photos to OneDrive and edit and view them on your Linux computer. You can switch between LibreOffice on your local computer and the Microsoft 365 online apps as needed when working. Want to migrate from Windows to Linux? Just throw all your Windows files into OneDrive, add your OneDrive account to Linux with onedriver, and call it a day. -

WipeFreeSpace
Secure wiping/shredding of free disk space with many methods
WipeFreeSpace is a program to securely erase/wipe/overwrite/shred the free space on file systems WITHOUT DESTROYING EXISTING FILES, to prevent recovery of deleted sensitive data. This allows protecting the user's privacy when e.g. selling the drive or the whole computer. The following filesystems are supported: - Ext2/3/4, - NTFS, - XFS, - ReiserFSv3/4, - FAT12/16/32, - MinixFS1/2, - JFS, - HFS/HFS+, - OCFS. The following wiping methods are supported: Gutmann-like, random, Schneier, DoD. Additionally, WipeFreeSpace can finalize wiping the filesystem by writing blocks of zeros, which is friendly for sparse files, virtual systems and other places where zeroed-out space is not physically allocated. Neo-tree is a Neovim plugin to browse the file system and other tree-like structures in whatever style suits you, including sidebars, floating windows, netrw split style, or all of them at once. The biggest and most important feature of Neo-tree is that we will never knowingly push a breaking change and interrupt your day. Bugs happen, but breaking changes can always be avoided. When breaking changes are needed, there will be a new branch that you can opt into, when it is a good time for you. Aside from being polite about breaking changes, Neo-tree is also focused on the little details of user experience. Everything should work exactly as you would expect a sidebar to work without all of the glitchy behavior that is normally accepted in (neo)vim sidebars. I can't stand glitchy behavior, and neither should you. -

Afero
A FileSystem abstraction system for Go
Afero is a filesystem framework providing a simple, uniform and universal API interacting with any filesystem, as an abstraction layer providing interfaces, types and methods. Afero has an exceptionally clean interface and simple design without needless constructors or initialization methods. Afero is also a library providing a base set of interoperable backend filesystems that make it easy to work with afero while retaining all the power and benefit of the os and ioutil packages. Afero provides significant improvements over using the os package alone, most notably the ability to create mock and testing filesystems without relying on the disk. It is suitable for use in any situation where you would consider using the OS package as it provides an additional abstraction that makes it easy to use a memory backed file system during testing. It also adds support for the http filesystem for full interoperability. -

An implementation of C++17 std::filesystem
This is a header-only single-file std::filesystem compatible helper library, based on the C++17 and C++20 specs, but implemented for C++11, C++14, C++17 or C++20 (tightly following the C++17 standard with very few documented exceptions). It is currently tested on macOS 10.12/10.14/10.15/11.6, Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 20.04, CentOS 7, CentOS 8, FreeBSD 12, Alpine ARM/ARM64 Linux and Solaris 10 but should work on other systems too, as long as you have at least a C++11 compatible compiler. It should work with Android NDK, Emscripten and I even had reports of it being used on iOS (within sandboxing constraints) and with v1.5.6 there is experimental support for QNX. The support of Android NDK, Emscripten, QNX, and since 1.5.14 GNU/Hurd and Haiku is not backed up by automated testing but PRs and bug reports are welcome for those too and they are reported to work. -

A simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to 'find'
fd is a program to find entries in your filesytem. It is a simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to find. While it does not aim to support all of find's powerful functionality, it provides sensible (opinionated) defaults for a majority of use cases. First, to get an overview of all available command line options, you can either run fd -h for a concise help message or fd --help for a more detailed version. fd is designed to find entries in your filesystem. The most basic search you can perform is to run fd with a single argument: the search pattern. Instead of just showing the search results, you often want to do something with them. fd provides two ways to execute external commands for each of your search results: the -x/--exec option runs an external command for each of the search results (in parallel), or the -X/--exec-batch option launches the external command once, with all search results as arguments.
