I understand... That's a shame for the global compatibility, if at least for the old 7-zip versions there was an error message or the total impossibility to extract an archive with the new compression method. Because for the users who are using old version, a recent archive just looks corrupted during the extraction (some files are extracted some other not). How can I at least make the the default right click -> Add to "xxx.7z" with -myv=1900 parameter ? (What a privilege to discuss with 7-zip creator,...

Updating the entire world is probably a good idea but is it realistic ? On other point of view I think that it is a good idea to restore the compatibility with all 7-zip version on the next 7zip releases. Something which improve the compression but break the compatibility should be optional.

Thank you Igor for this answer. I don't really know what is the new arm64 filter. May be -myv=1900 should be the default behavior for 7-zip ? I remark that the compression is a little less efficient but the compatibility could be a priority may be ?

Recently updated my 7-zip from v18 to v24 whenever I share a .7z archive, I get a lot of users complaining about problems during extraction. On the version 24, I have created 7z archives from Windows (simple right click -> Add to xxxx.7z) and also from linux arm (7zz a xxx.7z /myfolder) but each time when I send the archive to users they have to update their 7-zip to successfully extract these newly created archives. I'm not a compression expert, I was thinking first that that it was because LZMA2...
