Hi - just dropping in to see if I can fix that PDF417 problem. My fault - I should have sorted that out years ago! There is no code from Grandzebu's project in Zint so I'm confident his copyright can be removed. When the header says it was "adapted from" his code that is, in retrospect, incorrect. Today I would say it was "inspired by" his code - the algorithm started off being the same but the code was completely re-written. The only thing that remains is some of the variable names. I think the...

Hi Mark, Thank you for letting us know about this. I have sent a message to the person managing the website and hopefully you will see the link removed in the next few days. Robin.

My goodness it's been over a month! Sorry. Yes, I agree keeping Tec-It compatibility is not really relevant, and I suspect probably never was, so I don't see any need to add any new numbers or to do anything about the fact that Tec-It now goes beyond 128 in their numbering system - so no new ticket needed after all. I do still think it's reasonable to keep the Zint specific stuff >= 128 as there is no real need to break this established convention. This is probably academic anyway as it seems the...

Thank you as ever for your fantastic work, Martin, but I'm afraid there is one small thing I need to nit-pick with one of your tweaks... the "barcode # holes" are no accident but rather an attempt to ensure the numbering is consistent with tbarcode/X and (as per table 30 on page 81 of this document: https://www.tec-it.com/Download/PDF/TBarCodeX11_Manual_EN.pdf) number 127 is (or should be) assigned to GS1 DataMatrix. Antoine's choice of 147 is, in my opinion, more appropriate. I notice that there...

Hi Ken, Thank you for your interest in Zint. To clarify it is not possible to place an image into a standard compliant QR code symbol. I have often seen QR codes where a central portion has been obscured by an image, which is what I think you are referring to, but this is not part of the data encoding process, and so is outside the scope of this project. To achieve this effect you can generate the QR code with Zint and then paste your chosen image on top using a package such as Gimp or alternatively...

Hi Antoine, I've just been looking at your GitHub repository - I haven't gone through it thoroughly but it looks like great work. Congratulations on your reverse-engineering! I would definitely welcome this into Zint. Robin.

Griffin, thank you for your post on this topic - you make a good case for the use of visual identifiers to accompany machine-readable code, and I am convinced by your argument that there is a need for this functionality. As annoying as it seems to me that people use QR Codes in this way I can see that there is a reason why they do so. My counter-argument, however, is that, for the reasons I previously stated, QR Code is not the way to do it. Although QR Codes are pretty clever, they are also now...

Hi Michael, Thank you for your prompting on this. I have given a longer answer to this question at https://sourceforge.net/p/zint/tickets/306/ which you might like to look at. I'm sorry I did not spot this ticket at the time otherwise I would have linked to my response in #306 when I wrote it. The TLDR of my personal advice is that you should not put images on top of QR codes, and should not use this feature on other QR code generators. If, despite this advice, you still want to do so then, as it...
