Panopto

Pros: Panopto is always available - it can be used from a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. And I have never had it fail when I needed it to record an important presentation or event. My students regularly use it to record assignments, which allows them to share more than just words - they can share dynamic images, hand gestures, intonation, and pacing.

Cons: If I want to organize recordings by date, setting up folders for each class on a semester-by-semester basis requires me to think about which classes need a folder to save recordings. It's a small price to pay for the convenience of having recordings from when I first used Panopto in 2009.

Overall: Panopto is a flexible, powerful and reliable software service that is my go-to digital resource management system for videos, associated documents (like .pdfs), hyperlinks and multimedia presentations (e.g., PowerPoint with video and screen recording).

Pros: For me the entire platform is a "pro" it just joins up lots of individual aspects of capturing a lecture in to one really smooth and easy to use process. From an academics point of view it is very easy to use and it also very flexible and can work with many teaching styles. I like that it can be as simple or as complicated as you like catering for a large group of people. The online platform is very easy to use and since the aesthetic revamp I really like the UI. Its easy to manage recordings and as an Admin I can easily manage permissions and users. All in all the system works very well and doesn't require huge amounts of training in order to use! The support is also second to none and if you have a problem you can be reassured the support team will help to resolve it!

Cons: The online editor is a bit limited and I would love to see a web based recorder or at least a "no Install" recorder for both mac and windows (currently its only for windows) This would be very handy for external lectures. Also the apps on both android and iOS could use an update.

Overall: My experience had been great the system is easy to use and the support is fantastic . Also the integration with out VLE and SSO makes it very easy to set up and start using immediately

Pros: Very easy to use as it's fully integrated into teaching spaces and VLE. Seamless service from recording in teaching spaces to students viewing online.

Cons: Editing is a little finicky. Could be a little easier.

Overall: Panopto is used throughout our institution and has changed how our academics approach lecture capture and use it in their teaching. It has also enhanced our student experience with academics looking at innovation in their teaching.

Pros: I love all of the functionality and the ability to manage all of the content. We can live stream events, add quizzes to videos and integrate them into Canvas, schedule lectures and more. All of this is backed up by a passionate company that takes pride in their work and provides excellent support. They also have a thriving community available and an excellent annual conference where you get to speak with the engineers in person.

Cons: No web based recorder yet. A web based recorder with an intuitive guided experience would help our students create and submit videos for homework. What I'm excited about though, is given the companies passion for their platform, I know this is something they will develop down the line.

Overall: We've had a great experience with Panopto. It continues to have expanded use at our college and it's a tool I can confidently rely on to get the job done.

Pros: Great piece of software that is easy to use and administer. They tie into other pieces of educational software that makes my life easier as an admin.

Cons: The reporting could be enhanced, but I know this is coming in the future.

Overall: I would highly recommend Panopto for anyone wanting an easy way to record and/or organize his video library.

Pros: Being able to record, edit and share easily ... from anywhere and for everyone both teachers and students

Cons: I'd love to make panopto content more accessible by finding a way to caption at a lower cost - its an industry issue rather than a panopto one

Overall: Helping to engage students in learning, widening participation by increasing flexible learning opportunities, enabling innovation with video in learning and teaching.

Pros: Ease of use with intuitive interface for editing scheduled lecture captures and personal recordings.

Cons: No significant cons. Panopto support good and continue to improve their products.

Overall: Fully integrated into our VLE, Panopto is used thoughout our institution provides a massive enhancement to our student's experience.

Pros: Integrates well with our learning management system, easy to use recorder software and web interface, simple sharing of videos, no plugins/downloads needed to play videos in a web browser.

Cons: The Panopto Recorder software can be a little buggy and fail to upload videos

Overall: We primarily use Panopto for lecture capture and use in our online classrooms. However, the reach of Panopto at our institution has expanded. Panopto is used for training videos, meeting recordings and we're starting to explore using it for live streaming. The service is easy to figure out and dependable. The integration with our LMS, Brightspace, makes it straight-forward for instructors and students to watch and record videos in the platform.
