Horizon Protocol is a differentiated DeFi platform that extends “mainstream DeFi” (borrowing, lending, liquidity) into the creation of on-chain synthetic assets representing the real economy. Creation and liquidity provision of synthetic assets tied to real-world assets and instruments. Participants reap rewards/fees in tokens for providing stablecoins & main coins to back synthetic assets as well as provide liquidity, with the aim of replicating the price, volatility, and thus the corresponding risk / return / valuation profiles of the underlying assets. Synthetix is a decentralised synthetic asset issuance protocol built on Ethereum. These synthetic assets are collateralized by the Synthetix Network Token (SNX) which when locked in the contract enables the issuance of synthetic assets (Synths). This pooled collateral model enables users to perform conversions between Synths directly with the smart contract, avoiding the need for counterparties.
