To provide users with accurate and actionable data, MarineVesselTraffic.com uses real-time filtering and analysis combined with post-processing. The chaotic raw data flow is filtered down to 30 million positions each day, one position per ship, per minute. As a rule of thumb, in-range vessels will be updated on a 60-second basis (1 position report per MMSI per minute). The Live Map (and the other website pages) update accordingly. You can pan and zoom in the usual ways, and skip back and forward in time using the timeline at the bottom of the screen. The controls at the top right let you show and hide different map layers, port names, the background map, routes (a plot of all recorded vessel positions), and the animated ships view. There are also controls for filtering and colouring by vessel type. The merchant fleet is divided into five categories, each of which has a filter and a CO2 and freight counter for the hour shown on the clock.

    "Unfortunately not the best option on the market"

    Pros: Visually it has a good presentation with good colour choices and layout of the information available. The customer support chat works well and it is possible to communicate with someone in less than 24 hours. The AIS signal coverage of the ships is good.

    Cons: In functional terms it is extremely far behind the competition. If the aim is to use the alert system for ship monitoring it is better to choose the other company of the same group (MarineTraffic). The alerts arrive more than an hour late or often never at all, it is simply not worth it. Clearly the service needs to be better developed and leveraged because the signal coverage of the ships is very good. This potential is not being harnessed and simply takes away too much value from the company which ends up being expensive for what it offers.

    Overall: Exhausting and a disappointment at the end. It promised a lot but after a few months you realise it was a mistake.
    They had everything, really everything to be the best, but the application does not deliver the information on time.
