Our rankings track the total value locked into the smart contracts of popular DeFi applications and protocols. You can also learn about developments and opportunities in the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem by subscribing to our Dot Pulse newsletter. DeFi Pulse monitors each protocol’s underlying smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. Every hour, we refresh our charts by pulling the total balance of Ether (ETH) and ERC-20 tokens held by these smart contracts. TVL(USD) is calculated by taking these balances and multiplying them by their price in USD.

Collects data on a protocol by calling some endpoints or making some blockchain calls. Computes the TVL of a protocol and returns it. Right now our SDK only supports EVM chains, so if your project is in any of these chains you should develop a SDK-based adapter, while if your project is on another chain a fetch adapter is the way to go. The adapter is just a function that takes a timestamp and block-height (on Ethereum) and returns the balances of tokens locked in your protocol's smart contracts at that point in time.
