About Crestadoro
Crestadoro is a networkable file indexing and search tool. You can install it on multiple Windows machines, create libraries of documents that reside on each machine, then search and access the files from anywhere on your network.
You can install Crestadoro on as many machines as you like, both the indexing engine and the search client are easy to set up. You can optionally use SQL Server to store the data if you don't want to use the internal storage mechanism that comes as standard (though it is pretty wizzy!).
The Community Edition is completely free to use, you can have as many libraries as you want, the only limitation is that each library can only hold a maximum of 100 documents.
Crestadoro is named in honor of Andrea Crestadoro, a chap who lived a couple of hundred years ago who is generally considered to be the first person to come up with the idea of indexing a book by its content rather than its title. He was also an inventor who came up with some bonkers ideas!

"Good product given its free" Posted 2024-01-31
Pros: I'm only using the community edition but that does everything I want, if I did need to upgrade them it seems reasonably priced for what it does.
Cons: I can't think of anything to put here, I have had no problems using this.
Overall: My experience so far has been very positive. I only downloaded it a couple of days ago so its early but so far I cannot complain, and when I did need help I got a response within 24 hours.

"I like this" Posted 2024-01-31
Pros: I think the thing I liked the most was that it got the job done with the minimum of fuss. I tried a couple of other things that I couldn't understand but this worked well.
Cons: I didn't realise there was no setup thing, its just unzip and run. Thats probably my fault for not reading the instructions properly.
Overall: I have a lot of metatagged artwork files across multiple machines in different folders and needed a way to find and manage them, tried some others first which didn't work but this sorted it out.

"Solved my problem" Posted 2024-01-30
Pros: Its easy to set up, and works on a peer to peer basis so finding files on different machines is easy. Seems very low maintenance where resources are concerned, memory use is low.
Cons: Nothing springs to mind. Interface maybe looks a little dated but it does the job.
Overall: Highly recommended, it solved our problem quickly and the support people are quick to respond and very helpful.
