  • This is wonderful piece of software. My HDD broke and had to be repaired. Most of the files were recovered, but sometimes there were missing pieces. Half of the recovered mp3 files from my collection suffered from occasional trims, like 5 to 10 first seconds of a song were skipped when playing. I thought I should download all these anew, but then I found mp3val. It fixed all ~600 files in a matter of seconds - I didn't even expect it was possible! All songs now start at the beginning as they should. There are, however, some 0.3-0.7 second gaps left in the middle of some songs, but this is negligible compared with 5-10 seconds trims in the beginning of an mp3 file.
  • I used MP3val to repair my ~17,000 track music library to fix the problem Traktor has during the shutdown process, and I'm glad to say it was successful. My virtual deejay software Traktor was freezing on frequent occasions upon shutting down during the "Flushing Background Tasks" phase. This error proves to be extremely annoying, as it doesn't save any modifications done during the session since it was opened. I researched a fix to this problem on the Native Instruments forum, and I found out that this particular issue is caused by corrupted music files, and was directed here to try MP3val. I had one problem during the repair process of using MP3val. And that's when repairing the software it would stop the process on tracks that had foreign shapes or characters in the title, and also on some tracks that seemed "ok" to the naked eye, but it just didn't like it for some reason. This would make you have to abort the repair and skip around that track manually. Not too much of a problem as this was an extremely rare occasion consisting of only 5-10 tracks out of a ~17,000 track library filled with a ton of free downloads. Those 5-10 tracks were most likely the ones causing my big issues any way, and it singled them out, so I guess this is hardly a complaint. I went back later and fixed the titles myself by editing the characters and they scanned/repaired just fine after that. My music library is 15 years old, relatively large, has a bunch of free downloads, some tracks with weird characters, and has been moved at least 5 times over to different drives. If any of this sounds like you then I highly recommend this tool in your arsenal.
  • I was having trouble importing some MP3 files into iTunes, and, after researching why this might happen, came to the conclusion that they needed to be "evaluated" and "repaired." Not really undersatanding what this entailed, I took a shot in the dark and googled "mp3 evaluator." Among the first few results was MP3val. I rarely download and use open-source programs because of past negative experiences; however, once I downloaded this program, I was very delighted with the speed in which it opened (seemingly instantaneously) and even more delighted with the ease of use! I imported about 11 MP3 files that were having issues, clicked "scan," then clicked "repair." And that was it! They were all fixed and imported with absolutely now issue into iTunes! I am extremely satisfied with this program. Thank you, programmer! By the way, I didn't rate the "support" section only because I didn't have to use it, but if the support is as good as the program functions, I'm sure it's excellent as well! The only issue I had was that it wouldn't scan a file that contained Japanese characters, so I had to close and reopen the program. After quickly renaming the file, though, it ran just fine!
  • Fixes most errors. Seems to hang on filenames with French characters (using the Windows front end).
  • Thank you author for useful application.
  • Very simple: drag all dirs with music to the app window and check. It will fix everything. Excellent!
  • Does exactly what is says on the tin!
  • Thanks for Mp3val, it's wonderful!
  • I just discovered that out of 2500+ songs I own, some of them weren't playing in iTunes. The problem is I didn't know which ones or how many, which made pulling the original CDs and re-ripping them seem like an arduous task. Fortunately I found out about mp3val, ran it on my entire folder, and the problem was solved in just a few minutes. Thanks!
  • This is the only software I have found that will repair the mp3 files in my music library. It's quick, thorough, and as added bonus will resolve the stupid iTunes "Determining Gapless Playback info..." bug/feature/annoyance.
  • found this great, Recovered a lot of damaged files
  • Works good. Very fast, easy to use and portable. Just what I was looking for.
  • Worked great! Fixed some files that wouldn't play, and identified others that didn't have any tags or were not actually mp3 files. And the front end didn't choke on over 7,000 files. Thanks!
