msys flex
========================================================================
This is flex, the fast lexical analyzer generator, compiled for the
MSYS platform.
flex is a tool for generating scanners. A scanner, sometimes called a
tokenizer, is a program which recognizes lexical patterns in text. The
flex program reads user-specified input files, or its standard input
if no file names are given [*], for a description of a scanner to
generate. The description is in the form of pairs of regular
expressions and C code, called rules. Flex generates a C source file
named, "lex.yy.c", which defines the function yylex(). The file
"lex.yy.c" can be compiled and linked to produce an executable. When
the executable is run, it analyzes its input for occurrences of text
matching the regular expressions for each rule. Whenever it finds a
match, it executes the corresponding C code.
[*] I've noticed that MSYS flex fails when input is presented
on stdin. That is:
$ echo %% | flex.exe
fails, but
$ echo %% > tmpfile
$ flex.exe tmpfile
works fine. I don't think this is a very common usage pattern, so
I haven't bothered to track it down.

Port Notes:
---------- flex-2.5.35-2 -- 2010 Feb 05 -----------
* Rebuild against msys-1.0.13, using (msys)gcc-3.4.4
and (msys)binutils-2.19.51.
* Rebuild against shared versions of libintl and libiconv.
* Use -O3 -fno-unit-at-a-time to avoid optimization bug
in latest msys-gcc. Also, don't use -mms-bitfields
when compiling msys binaries.
---------- flex-2.5.35-1 -- 2009 Aug 05 -----------
* First release of flex for msys using new packaging standard.
