XCSoar for Kobo-Launcher

This installs a patched version of XCSoar to your Kobo. This version has support for GoflyV4/V5 devices built in and is linked against OpenSSL library version 1.0.2r. The latter is needed to make https:// connections to nowadays web services.

There are also some mods to avoid a false landing detection if a paraglider flys too close to a ridge in strong headwind.

Together in the archive also a set of terrain maps, waypoint databases and airspace definitions. Ready to start flying in the Alps, Germany, Czech-Republic or Spain. I also added user profiles for beginner-, XC- or race-pilots to have a set of usefull info-boxes in the XCSoar display layout.

You wil need to select and configure your profile accordingly.

You must have the Kobo-Laucher (aka ServicePack2) installed before.

Installation procedure

  • connect the Kobo to your PC and mount USB-storage
(you must have selected E-Books in System -> System Variables -> Storage -> E-Book Export
or go via starting Kobo E-Reader from Application menu before plugging USB cable)
  • copy KoboRoot.tgz into the subdirectory ".kobo" on the Kobo
  • safely "remove USB Hardware" on your PC
  • unplug the USB cable
  • reboot tho Kobo (i.e. tap on Power-Off button, wait until all LEDs are off for at least 5 seconds, switch on)

To update the airspace files

  • connect your Kobo to the internet (Tap on Network -> HotspotScan, find a nearby WiFi hotspot and enter your WiFi password)
  • open the Browser from Applications/Network
  • tap on "HOME" in the navigation tab
  • tap on "Datenverzeichnis" -> "XCSoarData" -> "AirSpace" to change into that directory
  • tap on some .txt file to trigger the update for that file. The NOTAM_.txt files are downloaded from airspace.xcontext.org. The Air_*.txt files are downloaded from soaringweb.org.
  • if an airspace-file-template is not existing for your country, try touching airspaces by tapping on "touch_airspaces.html". Mark the checkbox for your country and tap on "submit". Afterwards tap on NOTAMs_xxxx.txt or Air_xxxx.txt to download the approriate airspace file.
