Gap.app 0.61

The new 0.6 version of Gap.app comes with an improved and streamlined interface. It supports the latest releases of GAP. The Gap.app+GAP edition comes with GAP 4.11 built in -- install everything you need by downloading and dragging Gap.app to your Applications folder!

Some advantages of Gap.app

  • Display graphical XGAP windows. Interactively examine the subgroup lattice structure of a group. It's easy to expand this support to examine other partially ordered sets.
  • Save what you're doing with File | Save (or with the standard ⌘-S shortcut). Gap.app saves graphical display windows, too!
  • No extra steps are required to install GAP -- it comes built-in to the Gap.app+GAP edition.
  • Easily load the .g file that you're working on with ⇧⌘-O. Reload the last file with ⌥⇧⌘-O!
  • Mac-centric user interface

New in 0.61

  • Better compatibility with Mojave, including dark mode
  • Other stability and polish fixes

New features in 0.6

  • Search command history in a Mac-like way with ⇧-↑ (Shift-Up Arrow)
  • Install the 'gap' shell command for use from Terminal.app from a menu item (requires a built-in copy of GAP)
  • Many improvements to the command window, making the interface more fluid:
    • reverse (dark) mode
    • improved command completion popup positioning
    • Allow Ctrl-D to exit break loop, but not to accidentally quit GAP
    • Option-Shift-Command-O rereads last Shift-Command-O file
    • bounce Gap.app icon when a >10sec computation finishes in background
  • Several low-level improvements to GAP support
    • gap> prompt is handled better
    • readline support is included in the built-in GAP
    • Gap.app will warn if running external GAP when built-in GAP is available
