  • Rant: (to SourceForge: Excessive punctuation is prohibited? Do you have any idea of how unreadable user comments become without it??? So getting done with you... ) 2025, 6th August Hi "all", TL;DR-1 (input-leap): head to Barrier's github link above and find the link to input-leap): TL;DR-2 (this, unmantained, Barrier): - It works! - configuration screen misguides you into thinking it's all about machine ip addresses. IT IS NOT! - Put the client name (shown when lauching IN the machine you want to control) in the server screens IN the machine you want to control FROM. « - - - - The long story - - - - » I seldom take the time to write about something I try out of necessity but Barrier came up when asking GPT (! free tier, this is important to mention!) to generate an InputDirector client for linux (yep, it came to mind). Obviously while it generated a python service plus install scripts, it wouldn't work due to lack of handshake details being unavailable. Claude (free tier as well), on the other hand, --- pointed me to use Barrier ---instead but, I had to ask it to try and improve gpt's solution to include ID's security features, which he tried... XD... Needless to say, it also pointed out handshake details were closed source and that... - ok, let's give it a try: *Without reading any instructions* I got it installed as server on windows and, an 'apt install barrier' and launching it as client on debian... 'nada', 'nothing'... "starting..." on debian, "running" on windows... - what the hell...? Then I read a few comments here on SF... Some successfully installed, some went through different levels of 'pain' to get it working. - WHY DO WE NEED THE CLIENT HOSTNAME WHEN THEY CAN BE CONFIGURED BY IP? <name-your-god>-only-know's... :P *After reading instructions* - Well, let's put the damn name into the server screen... reload... "running"... - Let's stop and restart debian's client... "running"! - It WORKS! :D - kind of... No file dragging... no file copy/paste from windows explorer, no text copy/paste... barrier logs do show clipboard being updated... Ok, let's call it a day... - Today, 6th August, while accidentally (having forgot clipboard wasn't working) copying something from a browser on windows to paste in debian... - wait! what? It pasted ! - does file...? - nope, that's still a - no file dragging, copy/paste... *Conclusion* - hmmm, might fork it - i thought, ... Only then I learned about the new «Input-Leap» project. Specs: windows: 11 21h2 as Server / Debian: 12 as clients Best luck to you all!
  • Love this! It's a great alternative to Synergy. It's been used to connect MacOS with Ubuntu/Linux and it's a dream. Kudos to the devs of this app. It's truly a joy to set up and use. Can't say thanks enough nor recommend it any higher. Have not tested this with Windows but in the future would totally lobby to use it for game dev like with Playstation or Xbox or Switch if you're a developer, engineer, or programmer to be able to access a game's hud or gui in conjunction with one's dev machine.
  • Works mediocre in certain situations but does nothing but trouble in most cases. I used Barrier for 2 years in diferent scenarios in daily tasks: 1)MacOS Server - Windows 10/11, Debian 11 , Windows11 VM as client 2) Windows 11 as server - MacOS as client 3) Debian 11 as server - Windows 11 VM as client It crashes constantly and randomly over all machines, the restart option is useless and sharing clipboard is buggy. I agree this project is dead.
  • better than paid alternatives like synergy and its cross platform unlike ms garage's mouse without border.
  • Hello! I have found some bugs about the application that might help you to improve your project. If you want me to tell you about them please let me know!!
  • I was so impressed with this software that I specially made sourceforge account, just to leave review. Brilliant Piece of software. Very easy to setup. Using it cross platform as well. I have Mac machines with 2 additional screens (So 3 screens) and one Windows 10 Computer.. All controlling from my mac keyboard/ mouse now. Loved it. Thanks.
  • Excellent job! 2 PC Win10 / Ubuntu with wireless mouse and keyboard I had to uncheck some items to get it run (screensaver, ...) Best regards
