The Merlin firmware on Asus nicely fits the gap between consumer grade router solutions for a home, and a full enterprise device/service solution. Performance, flexibility, stability and security are all treated as critical "must haves". As a result, I get a lot of value for my Asus home network router solution. I started using Asus and Merlin in 2015 and have stayed with it. Sourceforge notifies me of new versions via RSS from my router model's file page and notifications are created from that feed. The upgrade feature on the routers tells me what's included in that update.

Excellent option for users seeking stability with customization.

The Wireless Scheduling page does not load properly consistently every time that page is visited. So when I click on Time Scheduling under professional tab in Wireless section, it does not load properly everytime that section is visited.

The best alternative firmware for ASUS routers

May have saved me from scrapping my RT-AC88U! Router was getting flaky. Latest update fixed the dcd crash. So far very good!

Love it! As a user of WRT on a D-Link router before, I was looking for a WRT equivalent for my Asus RT-AX86U. This build has the right combination of working with ASUS, keeping it simple while providing great functionality... Thanks RMerlin :-)

I would like to see some set up templates for certain situations

I have always used Merlin on RT68U and now AX86U. I love the features it has ,shame no Pi.hole added. it would be a solid firmware especially that Wire-guard works wonderfully well. please add Pi.hole support. thanks.

None of ASUS website Firmware worked because my last Firmware was too old and ASUS Firmware could not update it, and no matter what I did to update it worked. It left me confused why it wouldn’t. I came across sourceforge.net with a solution to fix my problem, so I took a chance and downloaded the latest Firmware (RT-AC68U_378.55_0) and install the Firmware, and low and behold everything works again, and now I feel like a have a new modem with a great interface and no more issues, I can even load the latest Firmware from the ASUS website. So much for thinking my ASUS AC68U was too old to be fixed. I am tickled pink now it’s all working.

Everythign seems to work great even the AI Mesh only thing i couldnt find was the wireguard vpn which im sure you will add in the future ..

AI MESH broken in 386.7 2 final build for RT-AC88U Try as AIMESH master router ZEN ZD4R, Lyra Voice Then connect RT-AC88u as node. WPS on -- no connection can be DONE! Return to Asus official Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.386.48260 and it work!

I'm not going to short ya stars because I appreciate the work. I have an AC66U_B1 and flashed the RT-AC68U_386.4_0.zip firmware after seeing the notification in router interface for an update. Took me forever to get recovery mode activated so I could recover. If anyone else has the issue I did, set a static IP (192.168.1.3/24) on the machine attempting to recover the router, unplug unit, press and hold WPS button and insert power plug, when power light started flashing I tapped the reset button, after tapping the reset button I started receiving ping responses and opened http connection to 192.168.1.1 and was able to load the previous firmware RT-AC68U_386.3_2.zip. Unit is back up and running, though it shows in web interface that I am on firmware 386.4

Really love this project with all the additional tweaks added to the stock version. However, an area for great improvement should be AiMesh performance. I am using AC86U as my main router and 2x AC68U as nodes. At first I flashed all three with latest Merlin FW, but realized that mesh setup was extremely unstable and devices could not connect. I read elsewhere that only main router should be with Merlin FW and nodes with ASUS stock FW. After re-flashing I managed to get the mesh working, but my sons complainted about very slow throughput and speed for gaming. I measured and realized a drop in WIFI speed to less than half compared to no mesh setup. Eventually after flashing newest stock FW on all three devices, I am able to maintain the high speed on WIFI. This is very sad, as I am missing the features and stability of the Merlin version. I hope this will be improved in next version.

s***. the RT-AX92U doesnt exist wtf is that? Mr merlin tryna be smart over here...
