YAT 2.6.0

Let me announce the release of YAT 2.6.0, which features a simplified terminal view and a set of various improvements. The view may look unfamiliar at first but the improvement allows more area usable for content; especially noticeable with a workspace containing many terminals.

YAT 2.5.0

Taking way longer than expected, interrupted by various unexpected events, YAT 2.5.0 at least made it before the end of 2022. Kind of X-mas present.

Highlight: Rather than highlighting specific features, the highlight is the amount of smaller and bigger changes that resulted in versioning this release 2.5.0 rather than 2.4.2.

For details, see the release notes at https://sourceforge.net/projects/y-a-terminal/files/.
For the complete list of limitations and known issues, see the YAT feature request and bug trackers at https://sourceforge.net/projects/y-a-terminal/.

YAT 2.4.0

Finally, the release of YAT 2.4.0 is complete. Though way later than expected, partly thanks to the recent anomalies, partly due to the refactorings needed for the upcoming scripting feature. On the other hand, YAT 2.4.0 also turned out much more feature rich than initially planned. Highlights:

  • Sending/Receiving has completely been refactored:
    • Unidirectional Tx and Rx panels now use a separate line detection mechanism and no longer break lines at the same location as the bidirectional panel.
    • Automatic actions [Filter] and [Suppress] now also work for continuous data.
    • Support for concurrent sending, when enabled, multiple commands can be active simultaneously.
    • Performance further improved, 50 KiBytes/s can now be achieved with any of the typical terminal configurations.
    • Text terminals: Line content and EOL are no longer sent in two separate chunks.
    • Text terminals: Option to glue characters of a line together, enabled by default, resulting in fewer line breaks when sending and receiving in full-duplex.
    • Text terminals: Option to wait for response, disabled by default, resulting in request and response being displayed adjacently for sure.
    • Binary terminals: Lines are no longer broken each 16 bytes by default, they now by default are broken on every chunk.
    • Automated testing of sending/receiving significantly improved.
  • Text terminals: Now by default using UTF-8 encoding.
  • TCP/IP Clients: Auto-reconnect now also works in corner-case situations.
  • Plotting live data: See https://sourceforge.net/p/y-a-terminal/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/YAT/YAT/!-Doc.Project/4%20-%20Implementation/Auto%20Action%20Plot/ for demo videos.
    • New automatic actions [Plot Byte Count/Rate], [Plot Line Count/Rate], [Line Chart], [Scatter Plot] and [Histogram].... read more

YAT 2.1.0

YAT 2.1.0 comes with more than initially intended. Highlights:

  • Reorder, cut/copy/paste, export/import and even link predefined commands.
  • On-the-fly changing communication settings, e.g. "!(Baud(115200))".
  • Fixed support for non-Unicode DBCS/MBCS encodings.
  • Feature to filter or suppress lines of a given pattern.

For the complete list of changes, see the release notes at from https://sourceforge.net/projects/y-a-terminal/files/.

YAT 2.0 Final Version 2.0.0

α-β-γ-δ-ε-Final!

Hoi zäme, users and friends of YAT, almost 20 years after initial ideation (inspired by VersaTerm and good ol' Windows 3.x terminal), 14 years after writing the first pieces of code (in an attempt to get to know the at that time brand new .NET), 10 years after going public (and more than 75'000 downloads since), several ups and downs along the path, it's a great pleasure to announce YAT 2.0 Final!... read more

Discussion Forums

Being feature complete and approaching YAT 2.0 Final, it's the right time to start using discussion forums for support requests, questions, answers,... instead of contacting project admins directly. Using forums, answers to questions asked can be seen by multiple people. Ideally, answers could even be provided by other users of YAT.

Over the next days/weeks, I will start adding a few selected past questions and support requests that still apply at this state of the project, including the corresponding answers.... read more

YAT 2.0 Delta Version 1.99.80

The delta towards 'YAT 2.0 Final' is getting smaller, so 'YAT 2.0 Delta' seems to be the appropriate release name ;-)

Highlights:

  • Additional workaround applied to prevent 'ObjectDisposedException' when disconnecting USB/RS-232 converters (USB CDC) without closing the serial COM port (bug #382). Workaround also applies when undocking or hibernating a computer running YAT without closing the serial COM port, as well as when restarting devices that implement a virtual serial COM port (USB CDC).
  • Break [Ctrl+B] can now also be used to break sending a file.
  • Improved speed and responsiveness on transmitting fast data.
  • System display scaling other than 100% mostly fixed for Win 7 and before.
  • A bunch of bug fixes, see release notes for the complete list.... read more

YAT 2.0 Gamma 3 Version 1.99.70

It's my pleasure to announce the next version of YAT, another major step towards 'YAT 2.0 Final'. The most important changes are:

  • Shortcuts for sending without EOL.
  • Unicode notation for sending and displaying.
  • Keywords with arguments !(Delay(<ms>)), !(LineDelay(<ms>)), !(LineInterval(<ms>)) and !(LineRepeat(<n>)).</n></ms></ms></ms>
  • Write to and read from multiple USB Ser/HID report IDs using the new keyword !(ReportID(<id>)).</id>
  • Improved catch-all of unhandled exceptions.... read more

YAT 2.0 Gamma 2' Version 1.99.51

The simplified deployment, as .msi only, unfortunately is incompatible with Internet Explorer 10 and above. Internet Explorer reports "the signature of this program is corrupt or invalid" even though the signature has been created by the Microsoft Visual Studio Installer... The issue is most likely caused by the Microsoft security update on 2016-01-12 which apparently imposes new requirements for .msi downloads.... read more

YAT 2.0 Gamma 1'' Version 1.99.34

Murphy was lingering ;-)

Early uses have revealed a few severe issues related to TCP/IP settings in the previous YAT 2.0 Gamma 1' Version 1.99.33. These issues have been fixed with this release.

In addition, an issue with the upgrade of the local user settings has been fixed.

And, last but not least, users of serial COM ports now have the possibility to better configure the ports in terms of sending:... read more

YAT 2.0 Gamma 1' Version 1.99.33

Another release, much sooner than expected ;-)

Early uses have revealed two severe issues in the previous YAT 2.0 Gamma 1 Version 1.99.32. These issues have been fixed with this release.

  • The first issue related to the compatibility with settings files (.yat) created with older versions of YAT. Note that compatibility with older settings files is verified during regression testing before each release of YAT. But the issue was caused by the incompatibility of the settings dialog, i.e. the user interface. New settings were not effected by this issue.... read more

YAT 2.0 Gamma 1 Version 1.99.32

It's a pleasure to announce the next version of YAT! This version is another major step towards 'YAT 2.0 Final'. Most important changes are:

  • Repeating commands, explore by sending "Hello World!(LineRepeat)!(LineDelay)", configurable settings
  • Versatile support for variants of USB Ser/HID (e.g TI MSP430 HID API)
  • Improved support to operate YAT using keyboard shortcuts

'YAT 2.0 Final' will be released once all bugs and feature requests of priority 7 and above have been resolved. This state is expected to be reached by the next or next-next version of YAT, and depends on your feedback as user of YAT. For details regarding the items, see 'Feature Requests' and 'Bugs Reports' at http://sourceforge.net/projects/y-a-terminal/.

YAT 2.0 Beta 4 Candidate 2 Version 1.99.30

I am pleased to announce the next version of YAT. Towards this version, massive refactorings and rather big changes as described under 'Important changes' have been done. After these refactorings, intensive testing was performed. However, there is a certain possibility that the refactorings may have lead to side-effects. The goal of this release is to again verify the stability of YAT. Depending on the findings, another version fixing the findings will be released within the next months.
In parallel, the remaining bugs of priority 5 and above are being fixed, and some minor new features are being added. Once this has been done, another version will be released. I expect that version to be released in spring or early summer of 2013.

YAT 2.0 Beta 4 Candidate 1 Version 1.99.28

This year the 'Samichlaus' is adding a new version of YAT to the piles of peanuts and tangerines! 'YAT 2.0 Beta 4 Candidate 1 Version 1.99.28' has just been released in time for December 6th.
This release adds quite some features to YAT, and a bunch of issues have been fixed. The most noticeable new features are related to serial COM ports as well as command line arguments in order to prepare automated and scripted use of YAT. See the release notes for details on new features, important changes, fixed bugs and known limitations.
The next release is anticipated for H1/2012 and will fix another bunch of issues and again a few new features. Slowly but steadily the number of open issues is decreasing. Once all major issues have been fixed, it will finally be time for 'YAT 2.0 Final'. The effective release time frame for 'YAT 2.0 Final' has not yet been defined and will be dependent on your feedback.
