xjiggui - Graphical User Interface for xjig Jigsaw Puzzle Game

Description

xjig is an excellent program to solve jigsaw puzzles. It cuts any picture into any number of tiles and provides very realistic way of moving and assembling them on the screen. But ... xjig is a command line application.

To make it available to everybody xjiggui was made.

Installation

Download the latest binary version form "Files" section of this project and open it with gdebi or type in your terminal:
dpkg --install xjiggui_X.X_i386.deb
where X.X is the package version

If xjig is not installed it will be installed automatically from available repositories. Most likely it will be version 2.4, which is not the last one and lacks some useful options. It is recommended to install the latest version, which can be found here at SourceForge
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xjig

The provided binary file was compiled with GTK2+ widgetset, but there is no reason why it cannot be compiled for QT as well. Use the source archive for this purpose.

First Run

On its first run the program tries to launch xjig and set up default options according to the version of xjig. These setting are kept in the local configuration file.

If it failed to execute xjig, the error message appears on the screen. You should either install xjig or, if it has already been installed into unusual location, go to the Advanced Options and indicate that location (see below).

Preparing Puzzles

The program maintains the collection of images in JPEG, GIF or PNG format.

To add an image to the collection you can

  • drop the file into the program form
  • click the button with the small house on it and select on or several files in the Open dialogue
