could you please check if the qlnxr driver supports your nic?
Include qlnxe driver in XigmaNAS
I've discovered that if (via BIOS settings) I limit the number of CPU cores it uses to 1, 2, or 3, then it successfully boots, but fails if I set it to 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8. This makes me suspect that I may have a faulty CPU chip. But I'm still confused why this is not a problem if I install 13.3.0.5. UPDATE: I installed a different CPU chip and now all is well! You can delete this bug report! Dan

This morning I installed FreeBSD-14.3-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img on a USB stick. After booting from the USB, I was able to run FreeBSD from the live USB without any problems. I then used the same USB stick to install FreeBSD on the boot SSD in the Dell, removed the USB stick and (again) successfully booted into FreeBSD. I also ran the diagnostics built into the BIOS of the Dell and it found no issues. So at this point, I think the bug lies somewhere within XigmaNAS 14.3.0.5. Dan
I should probably add that this was a fresh install with only the boot drive attached (a 32GB SSD). Also replaced the memory and updated to the latest BIOS but problem still persists. BTW, I do NOT have this boot problem if I install 14.3.0.5 embedded on an HP 800 G6 mini; however, I've been through every single BIOS setup option on the Dell and nothing seems to eliminate the problem except using the older version 13.3.0.5. Dan

Attached is a video of the boot to show where it dies at 18 seconds into the video with the last two lines displayed on the screen being: Creating 2nd memory disk for x64-embedded /mnt/mdlocal.xz (1/1) Dan

13.3.0.5 works, but 14.3.0.5 dies during boot

This issue may be in fact a safeguard as my data disks are only ZFS and ZFS seems unfriendly with swap (zvol or file). Later, I'll try adding an UFS data disk to confirm my feeling.
I can confirm this issue in the 14.3 serie as well. So I decided to create a zvol to be used as swap... which turned out to be a very bad idea :( It would be great to be able to use data disks for swap instead of smashing our USB flash drive. But despite this little issue, thanks a lot for XigmaNAS!
