Web User Interface (WUI): the basics

The ELSEMC comes with a web 2.0 User Interface, created using the fabulous ExtJS 4 framework from Sencha. If you have some knowledge about Sencha and ExtJS, you probably already own the basics for using an ExtJS based web user interface. Otherwise you can continue to read this section that discuss about those basics.

Download time

For your first use of the ELSEMC after you've started your web browser

ExtJS libraries are several tens of Mbytes. Each time you'll open your web browser to use the ELSEMC, the ELSEMC web application and most of the ExtJS libraries will have to be downloaded from the ELSEMC server to your computer.

If the ELSEMC server and you, are within your company networks, and depending of the congestion of them, the download time might be super-fast.

If you're at home and your internet line is ADSL, then the download might need a few minutes to be completed.

Using the ELSEMC, using a feature for the first time in your session

For instance, let's say this is the first time in your session that you display the results of a search. Then after you click on the "Search" button to get the results, you can think nothing is happening and you might click on the same button again and again.

In fact, especially if your internet line is "slow", a small amount of time is needed to download the GUI components to be displayed the first time, and also keep in mind that additional time is needed to perform the action you've requested. So don't panic on the button, just wait: it's normal.

Once various GUI components have been downloaded on the fly at least once during your session, there's no need to download them again and they will display more rapidly for the next use.

About the Grids

Data grids are everywhere in the ELSEMC!

Grid features
The data Grid: some grid's features

Depending of the kind of grid you will use in the ELSEMC, you might have the opportunity to use some or all of the features below. Just click on the arrow on the right of a column title to display the contextual menu, as shown in the screenshot above:

  • Columns can be moved to be organized in a different order
  • Columns can be resized
  • Columns can be hidden or displayed
  • Columns can be sorted using different ways
  • Data can be grouped by a selectable field
  • Data can be selected line by line (single selection) or by range (as it is used to do it in standalone applications, using Ctrl, Shift, Mouse, ...)
  • Drag & Drop can be supported between two grids where it is relevant
  • Double-clicking a line may trigger an action (display another WUI component, ...)
