This HOWTO is primarily designed for the users of the X-Itools ELSE Messaging Center software.
People that will manage the X-Itools ELSE software will also benefit of reading this HOWTO.
People that will install and configure the X-Itools ELSE software will also benefit of reading this HOWTO, even if we'll not write here about installation and configuration of the software on a Linux server.
The ELSE Messaging Center (ELSEMC) is a product available since ELSE version 0.9.17.
This is a Web 2.0 Interface allowing individual users to manage their personal settings, to get various information related to their email address, and most importantly, it offers the possibility for any user to perform some searches on their emails, and only their emails, for instance to check if an email is blocked, where it is blocked, and so on.
Users have an overview on some information related to the emails they have received, or to the emails they have sent. They also get their reputation as a sender and as a receiver.
Also, ELSEMC will give them the possibility to manage their personal blacklist, whitelists, and they will get the unique opportunity to have a view on the operations made by the greylisting engine about the emails involving their email address as recipient.
The ELSEMC is not the ELSE, but in fact conceptually speaking, the ELSEMC and the ELSE are the same product, understand any user will get access to the ELSE web interface or to the ELSEMC user interface depending of the rights and permissions an ELSE administrator will set on their ELSE account.
The ELSEMC needs the GreyLSE for all what is lists control. If the GreyLSE is not deployed in the messaging infrastructure, then greylist, blacklist and whitelists features are totally useless.
Well, the ELSE is "the big nuclear weapon" and the ELSEMC is "the knife".
ELSE has been designed to be used by messaging architects, administrators, help desk staff, ... whereas ELSEMC is designed to be used by end-users.
At some point, there was a need to unload the first population cited above from extremely basic requests asked by end-users, as there was a need by end-users to get the possibility to perform very basic tasks by themselves without each time opening incident tickets.
This HOWTO is end-user oriented. It includes documentation about product daily usage, and its main features usage, like:
Who are considered the end-users?
It's simple: anybody having an email account.
This HOWTO is not administrator-user oriented, because the ELSEMC doesn't need and doesn't have any administration features.
This HOWTO is not SysAdmins oriented. It will not speak about the installation and configuration of the ELSEMC as well as of all its dependencies.
However, for your personal knowledge, it's recommended to all kind of audiences to read this HOWTO.
