Help and Support

If you want to follow all what can happen in the ELSE planet, I can suggest you to subscribe to the X-Itools mailing-lists. Two mailing lists are available, one for people that want to follow development (x-itools-devel) and the other one for people that want to have general discussions or user oriented discussions (x-itools-users). Check the "Support" or "Mailing Lists" menus on this SourceForge project page to subscribe, or click subscribe just below:

Professional services

For professional services, support services, maintenance contracts, coding of specific features, trainings, ... you can get in contact with me via my own Swiss or French companies:

ERIOS Conseil Sarl

I lack of time and cannot design my company web sites for now, but you can drop me an email at < hahnn@erios.org > ONLY after having subscribed to one of the both mailing lists above (otherwise your email have strong chances to be rejected if you write me personally)

Demo VMs

v 0.9.19

An Oracle VirtualBox VM has just been released on 24th February 2015, for demonstration purpose. I really insist: FOR DEMONSTRATION PURPOSE ONLY!

This demonstration VM will not be able to absorb a production load of several emails/second. It should be able to absorb a load below 10 emails/minute. It cannot be used for very long time as well, because the disk partitions would not have any remaining space extremely rapidly.

And of course, be aware that this VM is provided without any warranty of any kind.

You can click on the link below to download it:

VM file: ELSEv0.9.19_vm-1.0.0.tar.gz
MD5SUM: 552db645143b68d892a03c52cea7e7ea
Compressed Size: 1554 Mb
Uncompressed Size: 5.1 Gb
Date released: 24th February 2015
ELSE VM version 1.0.0

VM characteristics

  • CentOS version 7, up to date (23rd February 2015)
  • PostgreSQL 9.4.1 installed from official PostgreSQL repository in replacement of PostgreSQL 9.2 provided with CentOS
  • x86_64 architecture
  • 1 network card in bridged mode configured with DHCP
  • 1 processor
  • 2 Gb RAM
  • 100 Gb Hard Disk
  • preconfigured ELSE environment (Postfix, ELSE, GreyLSE, Postgresql DB, Rsyslog are all configured and running)
  • configured to act as a Postfix OUTGOING server
  • Ports 514/tcp, 25/tcp, 2525/tcp, 443/tcp are opened

Details and Warnings

  • Postfix is configured as an open relay
  • the network card is configured for DHCP, in bridge mode. That means you must have a DHCP server running somewhere in your home network in order for the VM to get an IP address. That should not be an issue as any ADSL box has a built-in DHCP server.
  • the ELSE Web User Interface (WUI) will be available on https://VM_IP_ADDRESS/ELSE/
  • you can login in the VM shell using root as login and password as password
  • you can login in the ELSE WUI using root as login and mailmanager as password
  • you can send emails via SMTP on port 25/tcp
  • if you have other Postfix servers in your network you want to test with the ELSE, you will have to correctly configure Rsyslog on them to send their logs via RELP to the Rsyslog server running in the VM, on port 514/tcp. Also, correctly configure the Rsyslog timestamp format like it is in the Rsyslog configuration file of the VM.
  • if you want your Postfix servers in your network to use the GreyLSE Postfix Policy Server of the VM, you'll have to configure them to send all their Postfix Policy Delegation requests to port 2525/tcp. Don't configure your Postfix servers to use the GreyLSE instance of the VM, if you don't have configured them to send all their logs also to the VM. Then use the ELSE WUI to configure your GreyLSE clients (your Postfix servers in fact).
  • In any case, please read the various documentations available in the Wiki!!!

X-Itools project Description

X-Itools: eXtended Internet Tools. Suite of tools composed of several modules like agenda, contact list, extended task/flow chart manager, password/device history manager, ticketing system, visitors/badges manager, policy manager (Nagios, and others in the futur)... Old and initial project in 2001.

ELSE project Description

X-Itools E-mail management module (log analysis) initiated in 2004 with Web 1.0 technologies (private SVN server).

X-Itools development restarted since 2011, on the basis of a unique module: E-mail management module (log analysis). It is now based on web 2.0 technologies (ExtJS 4.1) and has been restarted because of a particular interest given to it by a world wide Non Profit Organization (UN). Module renamed "X-Itools E-LSE", for "X-Itools E-mail Log Search Engine". Some features: Log analysis and correlation of Postfix and Exchange servers, statistics, policy manager, in-deep analysis, automated network graphs for e-mail tracing, CSV export... The Swiss knife of Messaging Admins!
