I am writting to all the developers announcing our new web site at http://unkosher.net/achelous/. Please post any comments on the forum or email as. Also a reminder we have changed our name from WinMac to Achelous. Those of you who was in the WinMac developer list and still wish to help with the OS development should contact me. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Dear Developers,
If you have not noticed, we have changed our
project name from WinMac to Achelous. This is because
of the copyright problems we had. Please could all
current subscribers go to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/achelous/ and subscrib
to the mailing list there.

Cool, keep us informed. I have Darwin running on an old 486-80. I am building up a Pentium III-500 to test it on as well. I have had little to no problems with the 486 so far. There is not much you can do with it (would make an excellent coding computer), but check out the Gnu-Darwin page on SourceForge, they have done serious work on porting the Gnu stuff to Darwin. eiselekd hermes wrote: > I'm just about to buy some old hardware to get the Drawin Kernel running on. > Asus P2P-B AT+ Celeron 533MHz Hope that will work in the first try. > Will try to run the images from the Drawin site on it. > eiselekd > > _______________________________________________ > Winmac-kernel-dev mailing list > Win...@li... > http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/winmac-kernel-dev |

I'm just about to buy some old hardware to get the Drawin Kernel running on. Asus P2P-B AT+ Celeron 533MHz Hope that will work in the first try. Will try to run the images from the Drawin site on it. eiselekd |

As many of you know, Darwin runs on the Intel platform, so we simply need to verify the status of the kernel. The main purpose we have now is testing the kernel, writing drivers, and implementing the API. We may not need to rewrite the kernel, but there is more to the core of the OS than the kernel. Anyone who has a platform available for test, please try to run the kernel as it is, and let the list know what needs to be fixed and what needs to be improved. As for the rest of you, prepare for the needed changes to come in. With the changes needed to get Darwin to work on my machine, there should be more than enough changes to keep us busy for a while. Those of you with driver experience, or those of you who just want to give it a shot, look on the Darwin site, see if all of your hardware is supported, if not start doing the research to write a driver for your hardware.. Anyway that is the status to date, please let me know where you think you are. For those of you who don't really want to/or can't do either of the above, look at the API for OS X, and start thinking about how to code up the different API routines. Look at the file area, display area, you know the major stuff. Jim Powell Kernel Manager Winmac |

A little of both actually, I plan to submit all work we do on the kernel back into the Darwin CVS as Intel compatibility work, as well as to the Winmac CVS (so put your name in whatever you change so you get credit for it). The additional work we do on the GUI and Mac compatibility code will be independent. -----Original Message----- From: rahul kalaskar [mailto:r_k...@ho...] Sent: Tuesday, December 19, 2000 11:26 AM To: Pow...@na...; win...@li... That is what I have been working on. I knew it would be useful. It will take a little more time to complete however, so if you want to take a section and start going through it making diagrams (OO, Structured, Flowcharts, whatever makes you happy) that would be appreciated (I have been working primarily in xnu and since this software is written in C not C++ I have been using Structured Analysis and Design methodology and flowcharts. If you are more comfortable with OO, use that approach. If it works out well, I will rework my stuff into that approach, if not I can help rework your stuff into SAD and Flowcharts). I have always been of the opinion that graphical representation of the code in any form is better than commented text or documents. I am however still looking for docs (developers notes, etc) for the kernel. -----Original Message----- From: rahul kalaskar [mailto:r_k...@ho...] Sent: Monday, December 18, 2000 7:06 PM To: Pow...@na...
