10 year's worth of updates!

Bill here, realizing that Tux Paint's SourceForge.net project has a news feed, and we haven't remembered to use it since 2008! What's new? Well, there have been 3 more releases since then!

  • In 0.9.20 (June 2008), we added dozes of new stamps.
  • In 0.9.21 (June 2009), we added two dozen new Magic tools, improvements to the "starter" image feature, and support for bidirectional languages.
  • In 0.9.22 (August 2014), we added over a dozen more new Magic tools, 40 new "starter" images, 200 new stamps, a "label" variation of the text tool, and accessibility enhancements.... read more

Tux Paint participating in Google Summer of Code 2008

The Tux4Kids organization (http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/), which Tux Paint is a part of, is participating in this year's Google Summer of Code program as a mentoring group. (http://code.google.com/soc) If you are a university student and wish to help work on Tux Paint, Tux, of Math Command and/or Tux Typing 2, you can apply between March 24th and March 31st (see: http://code.google.com/opensource/gsoc/2008/faqs.html#0.1_timeline)

Tux Paint 0.9.18 arrives

Update to Award-Winning Open Source Children's Art Software Adds Programmable Plug-in Support.

New Breed Software is proud to announce the release of version 0.9.18 of Tux Paint, the Open Source drawing program for children. Tux Paint 0.9.18's color palette now includes a rainbow-colored button which brings up a color picker. The colors available for painting have expanded from less than twenty to over 50,000! And now, pictures can have any solid-colored background. The background colors -- along with the "Starter" template images that ship with Tux Paint (which previously appeared in the "Open" dialog) -- are available from a dialog that now appears when starting fresh via the "New" button.... read more

Tux Paint 0.9.16 and friends released

A new version of Tux Paint, an award-winning, multi-platform drawing program for young children, is now available.

Tux Paint 0.9.16 debuts exciting new features alongside a number of improvements to old favorites. A new simple-to-use Slideshow feature allows you to select your favorite works of art and play them back at various speeds. Slideshow will help teachers and students create classroom presentations, and can even be used to make simple flip-book style animations. Tux Paint's paintbrush tool premieres two new additions. A brand new animated brush feature cycles through a sequence of images, covering your canvas in a trail of footprints or skittering squirrels. Also, new directional brushes which change shape depending on which direction you draw, allow for more natural-looking strokes.... read more

Tux Paint 0.9.15 and friends released

Tux Paint is a drawing program for young children with sound effects, a cartoon character, and fun 'rubber stamp'/'stickerbook' pictures. After over a year of development, a new version of Tux Paint (http://tuxpaint.sf.net/) is now available.

Among the changes too numerous to list here, Tux Paint has received a few new magic tools (smudge, grass, bricks, cartoon, lighten, tint), start-up time and memory usage were reduced, larger screen sizes are now supported, and 10 new translations were created (Albanian, Estonian, Gaelic, Galician, Gronings, Kinyarwanda, Mexican Spanish, Swahili, Thai and Ukranian). Tux Paint 0.9.14 released

Over the past nine months, steady progress has been made to improve Tux Paint and implement features requested by teachers and parents.
