tmsnet 0.6-beta1 released

TMSNet Client is a cross-platform client for Topfield PVRs. It uses the TMSNetServer Topfield Application Program (TAP) on the PVR as a server and provides a user interface for navigating the program guide, recordings and timers.

This version reverts back to the old way of handling information. I've been unable to get enough performance out of the RDF model to justify its use.

Features

  • Clear timers
  • Play/stop MP3s (No ID3 elements yet)
  • Save/restore EPG
  • FTP transfer of files... read more

Reverting to non-semantic version

For the past year, I've been trying to get the internal model of the client to be all semantically, using RDF and SPARQL. I don't seem to be getting anywhere closer to a working system.

I give up.

I'm reverting to the last non-semantic version. The work I've done has been parked in a branch so that I can revisit the code some other time.

What's Happening

There's a bit of a delay in providing the next release. This is because there is a major re-tooling going on under the hood.

Earlier versions of TMSNet Client used an object model to describe the various bits of information being exchanged between the client and the PVR.

Even with the simple object model, it became obvious that there was a lot of external information (eg. ratings, proper channel descriptions, etc.) that needed to be supplied externally. To begin with, this was simply provided via more objects. Then I got thinking about exteded programme information and ...... read more

tmsnet looking for help providing local info

TMSNet Client is a cross-platform client for Topfield PVRs.

TMSNet Client provides the ability to augment what's coming back from the PVR with station logos, ratings information, etc. At the moment, since the authors are Australian, this is limited to Australian information. It would be nice to allow other countries to have the same facilities, instead of the rather bland "defaults" that show up at the moment.... read more

tmsnet 0.5-beta1 released

TMSNet Client is a cross-platform client for Topfield PVRs. It uses the TMSNetServer Topfield Application Program (TAP) on the PVR as a server and provides a user interface for navigating the program guide, recordings and timers.

This is an architecturally very different and cosmetically slightly cleaned-up version of 0.5-alpha. For the geeks of this world, the main change under the hood is the use of semantic technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL and friends) to manage the resources associated with channels, ratings and what-have-you. The main reason for doing this, apart from the desire to play with kool technology, was to provide an extensible way to collect information about the programs, channels, etc. from the PVR. There's not quite enough information to do a nice job and it needs to be augmented with graphics, further description and so on.... read more

tmsnet 0.5-alpha released

TMSNet Client is a cross-platform client for Topfield PVRs. It uses the TMSNetServer Topfield Application Program (TAP) on the PVR as a server and provides a user interface for navigating the program guide, recordings and timers.

This is a release to get the features of 0.5 out of the door before charvolant goes travelling.

It's not quite up to the quality standards one might expect from a beta release. In particular, the file transfer is very slow when compared to something like FTP and it needs to be optimised.... read more

tmsnet 0.4-beta1 released

TMSNet Client is a cross-platform client for Topfield PVRs. It uses the TMSNetServer Topfield Application Program (TAP) on the PVR as a server and provides a user interface for navigating the program guide, recordings and timers.

The main changes in 0.4-beta1 is the ability to delete and rename recordings and the ability to undo some of the changes that you make to the PVR. The undo facility has resulted in a few changes to the way TMSNet works. If you make changes, you will need to "commit" them once you have decided that you don't want to change your mind (like emptying the recycling bin). If you exit the program with un-committed changes, you will be asked if you want to commit them or undo them all.... read more

tmsnet 0.3-beta1 released

TMSNet Client is a cross-platform client for Topfield PVRs. It uses the TMSNetServer Topfield Application Program (TAP) on the PVR as a server and provides a user interface for navigating the program guide, recordings and timers.

The main new feature in version 0.3 are installers for windows, linux and OSX. Using the installer removes the annoyance of accessing required, platform-dependent libraries separately, adds TMSNet Client to start menus and provides an uninstaller.... read more
