This is still a VERY primitive hint, but usable for some narrow purposes. It is hard coded just to use ICE MERP for now that is all that actually works. And that only lets you generate a character stats, select race, and select profession. It will then auto-total the roll and racial bonuses. Also beginnings of skill assignments just starting. You will also need to download the associated text files, and place them in the same directory that you download this jar file to.
To run this you need to open a command line, and change directory to the same directory the jar file (and text files) is/are in, then run the jar file.... read more
Significant update to Character Generation, by adding MERP2 static generator, but also some abstraction improvements.
Have most of base abilities generation completed, need to complete totals, then racial mods.
Currently only racial mod for hobbit ancestor.

Unfortunately, minimal realized work progress since the last update, though I've been continuing in my studies. Chugging through the UML 2 standards in preparation for applying those to this project before getting too deep into the code base. I don't think I made ANY progress on actual coding since the last update unfortunately. The server crash really set me behind on many projects.
I'm hoping a couple of folks I've chatted with may come on board and begin helping out (fingers crossed) sooner rather than later.... read more
Just an FYI, due to more flexibility with the website and unlimited screenshots, etc. Sourceforge seems to limit me to only a few. So, please check the main website for most future updates. Only significant major releases will be announced here. But rest assured, regular (if sporadic) progress is being made on this project, just keep checking http://www.suitegm.com for those updates, not here.
Cheers!

I have almost completed all the requirements for the RPG System selection and preferences utility.
So far the following now work properly (except it is plain text, not xml yet):
* Enable RPG Sytem Preferences to WRITE to a plain text file named “SuiteGmPref-RpgSystem1.txt” (later will be .xml).
*
Add checkmark to frame to enable secondary RPG system (for converting). If checkmark not enabled, then “Greyed out”. If enabled, the WRITES to “SuiteGmPref-RpgSystem2.txt” (xml later).... read more
I have been hemming and hawing on which open source license to assign Suite GM 4 to.
I at first just went with GPL, but after getting burned in GFDL with out magazine efforts, and learning how much more restrictive the GPL is, I've (for now) switched it to the MPL 1.1. I'm still trying to get my head around the dozens of licenses and which is the best map for this. I WANT folks to get it for free, and be able to contribute, fork, whatever, while keeping attribution to the original creator(s) (myself, and anyone else who joins in). I also don't want some commercial fork to come back and harass me.
And I would like to leave open the possibility of going commercial with this, but still offer the source code readily.
Anyhow, I'll be researching that more over time.... read more
I finally have a good, long head of steam now to work on this project. I am now scoping out and designing, as well as prototyping the application suite. Everyone's input is welcomed, and anyone who wants to help out at any level is welcome.
If you're a gamer, just check out the features document, and provide your suggestions for additional features to include.
If your multilingual, please help out with the translations into other languages.
If you would like to help with testing and debugging, you're most welcome (prototype not yet ready for that, but sometime this month we can begin pre-alpha testing).
I you know UMP (design), Java or XML, please help in any way you can.
If you're graphically inclined, lots of artwork submissions and help would be very much appreciated.
I'm uploading some new documents and screen shots shortly. Check them out here, or get more details at the main website at:

It's been a long time since I did any serious coding, especially in Java, so I've gone back to basics and been refreshing myself on Java, and learning the new improvements in Java 6. Supposedly 6 has huge performance increases as well. So right now I'm cranking through "Java 6 in 21 days" from Sams Publishing by Rogers Cadenhead and Laura Lemay. I'm finishing day 5 right now. If I can stay on track, that means I should finish it by November 20th or so. Then I will begin cranking away solely on SuiteGM.
If you have Java skills and would like to help. please post so I can include you in the design stage.
Cheers!
It has been years and years since I setup this account, and haven't followed up on it. I'm finally getting back on track with the Suite GM development. First I will upload previous older versions in various forms of functionality for feedback and to remind myself of various obstacles. Then I will upload the scope documents. Then finally I will make various decisions on Java version to require, etc. And IDE to use. And then finally begin with version 0.30.00 (pre-alpha).
I will post my progress updates as I progress. I probably won't be working on it much until August 1st (after MerpCon III is over). But then I should be working moderately on it in August 2007, and very intensely in September 2007.
Meanwhile, the older versions (Java 1 and Java 2) will be available for feedback and ideas.... read more
