Changes in this release:
Toolbar: The new version now sports a toolbar for easier usage.
ShipOrders window: With the 'ShipOrders' window you can easily set orders for ship like
'auto explore (always the closest sunsystem)', 'explore and colonize the first inhabitable planet found', transport goods from A to B, and so on. More commands will be added when the necessary game logic is implemented.
New weapons: Added some new weapons like laser cannon and bundled laser.... read more
The new version comes with animations, effects and music. (SpaceOpera plays your music from a directory.)
The distribution is in two files: SpaceOpera.jar contains the game code. SpaceOpera_Resources.jar contains all the resource files.
To use SpaceOpera, you need Java 1.4 or later, Xerces and the Java Media Framework V2.1.1 on your computer.
Thanks for all those who helped with SpaceOpera.
Have fun!
SpaceOpera is a turn-based space-colonization strategy game written in Java. It uses Povray and Terragen generated images.
With this release, a resource demand system has been added: For each colony, resources like 'iron', 'coal', 'electricity' and lots of others can be consumed, ranging from 'little' to 'very high' demand. This model will need some more testing and tuning, of course. 8-)
List of changes since V 0.4.400:
- Added resource usage and display to colony
- introduced 'demand'- system for colony resources
- each building and ship now uses different resources to build and to maintain
- Tuning of class ColonyResources
- new technologies, new buildings, new shipComponents
- added a building 'Colony Manager' to manage basic resource demands
- Restructured the SpaceOpera menu
- Dispose of all open windows when closing main window
- added 'show colony' button to planet display
- Added Kelly's new colony images
- difficulty level now affects population grow, building and research cost, ...
SpaceOpera is a turn-based strategy game similar to 'Master of Orion', 'Civilization' and 'Galactic Civilization'. You can explore the universe, colonize planets and fight up to 20 computer opponents. Images were created with Povray and Terragen.
Changes since last release: A lot of new images from Helen and Kelly!
Also some AI improvements: Computer players now select planets to colonize, buildings and research priorities depending on their personality.... read more

Currently I'm working on 'defense satellites'. Right now, they can be built only after a 'Orbital shipyard' has been built. Also, they shouldn't be able to leave orbit... I'm also planning to add a nice icon for them in the 'FightDetail' window, right next to the planet. After this, I'll release a new jar-file for download.

In SpaceOpera V 0.4.356 you can now attack and destroy colonies from computer players.
The startup parameters default to a tiny universe with just one opponent. I found this to be better for testing 8-)
The source is in CVS and can also be downloaded from the 'Files' section. Have fun!
Colonies can now be attacked and destroyed. Some cleanup done. Aliens attacking a planet leads to a loop, so don't use this version except for testing.
Planets are now attackable. Damage is not yet
propagated to colonies.

Changes since last release:
Added separate files to download for images, source, classes and complete distribution.
Corrected errors 'more than one star selected','more than one ship selected';
Added scanner function to colonies and ships and display of scanned area.
Added planetlist with 'goto planet' button.
Added next and previous planet functions and some tuning done.
Added Window PlanetList, added buttons next/previous planet.
Added 'next planet' and 'previous planet' function to SpaceOpera menu.
The source for SpaceOpera 0.4.342 is in CVS. Ships and colonies can be equipped with scanners. Only (enemy) ships that are within scanner ranges are showed. The scanned area can be displayed in the main universe window. -- Lorenz

The error where the computerplayer didn't build ships is corrected. I also changed the ship icon and decreased the stars size in the universe view. Hopefully it's a bit more intuitive now.
Yesterday, I added my own list of feature requests. Features are divided into 3 priorities: 9=Must Do, 5=Should Do, 1=Could Do. If you add a new feature request, please try to adhere to this rule. (Of course I'll do some shuffling around all the time 8-)
Visit the Space Opera CVS page at https://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=45664 to view/download the source code and the images. You can also download an executable *.jar file from https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=45664
Feedback will be appreciated very much.
Have fun!

I just have to add the legalese to the codebase and rsn I'll upload the source!
