There is a big directory here, in which ls -l used to take over 9 minutes to finish under smbnetfs-0.6.1.

Today I upgraded to 0.6.3 and the listings take about thrice longer -- 27-28 minutes.

The only other change is Samba -- I used to have samba-4.10.x, but that's been removed from FreeBSD and so now I'm using 4.13.4.

The change in Samba version also forced me to remove the limit on protocol version -- I used to set it to NT1, which 4.13 no longer even understands.

Regular ls finishes quickly -- it must be the stat of each entry, that's required by the -l switch, that makes it take so long.

Can anything be done to make it sensible?
