#39 clang complains about crash-triggering hack in list.h

The construct:
*((char*)NULL) = '\0';
which is used repeatedly in src/list.h triggers warnings from clang about the use of non-volatile NULL-pointer being stripped away. The warning suggests using __builtin_trap() instead, which is available in both gcc and clang -- the only compilers available on Linux and BSD systems.

Maybe, the check ought to be made into a macro instead...
