Here is a pair of handbooks helpful to you if you use KiwiSDRs or RTL-SDRs:
KiwiSDR: 21st Century Radio for the People is a handbook for anyone who owns or uses the internet connected KiwiSDR radios. It discusses some of the SDR's history, technical aspects of how it works as a third generation design, and how to set up a new radio. There is an illustrated panel by panel guide to the controls and indicators. Most useful are sections on best practices for broadcast listening, tuning utilities, and also amateur radio signals.
Airband Radio on the RTL-SDR is a similar handbook, written for the RTL-SDR. Although its name implies VHF-Air usage, the technical tips on antennas, getting accurate tuning, and weak-signal work, are useful for tasks other than aircraft monitoring.
I will speculate that next up for reference manuals is the Airspy series of SDRs. They are great performers and users ought to have an easy to use reference for getting the best out of them. <grin> Stay tuned... But a new update to Skywave Linux shoud come first.</grin>
Cheers,
