SiNet / News: Recent posts

This is a two-fold release. The main issue that is resolved is that, well, SiNet is actually working again. The other side is that I had to disable the album data for the time being. I've been too busy to write the code to sign the Amazon requests... but I'll get to it sometime "soon."

Just thought I would let anyone reading this know that Sirius has announced some changes to the billing and access of Sirius accounts. So it looks like sometime in March, 2009 some accounts will no longer have online listening access and they are claiming "a digital online music upgrade" which everyone should fully expect to render SiNet (and sipie) completely useless.

I have no knowledge of the types of changes that are being made so I can't comment on what's going to happen... maybe the "new" player will be cross-platform and have so many features that there will be no need for SiNet. Maybe it will suck like the old/current player and I'll have to hammer out some code to get SiNet working again. At any rate, just wanted to let people know that I still listen to Sirius Internet Radio daily and I'll be watching this transition closely. Today I let 1.0.0.14 out of the IDE. It's not as polished as I would have liked it to be, but I wanted to get some of the minor changes made pushed out to the live version.

This update includes:
# Saving the window position across application re-starts.
# Saving the volume level across channel changes and application re-starts.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I released the Sirius XM channel updates this afternoon. The update will be applied to both Windows and Linux users the next time you start-up SiNet, however Linux users may notice some song data doesn't update correctly, this will be fixed in the next day or so when I have time (no update will be required for that fix either). The only catch to the update is that the changes required also borked up the program guide so you'll see all the updates are shown in duplicate... annoying, but not a show stopper.... read more

Well, I decided to let 1.0.0.13 out of the IDE today. I'm not exactly excited about the features (or lack thereof) that are included because I had aspirations of including more, however there was a nasty script change that was made by Sirius that caused song information to get jacked up so I just finished what I was working on and put out this release.

You can expect very little activity on SiNet over the next few months as I work on some of the new GUI code and also implement some feature requests and enhancements that have been requested. Speaking of, if you have any feature or enhancement requests, please let us know!... read more

I'm looking for a few good souls that run Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, Etc.) and are willing to test a beta version of SiNet 1.0.0.13 that I have running under mono 1.9.x. Post to the forum or shoot me a quick e-mail if you want more details.

Well, here we are already at release 1.0.0.12. This release offers quite a few more options. SiNet now has song alerts (Sirens), an unlimited number of preset stations, album art, customizable interface, and more options for alerts and song notifications. 1.0.0.12 also adds support for the audio captcha if you're so inclined to use that option.

Well, tonight I have released the next version of SiNet (1.0.0.10) which includes experimental support for SiNet Sirens (song alerts). The method we're using to provide alerts to the client is over XMPP so an account is required (but is very very easy to get setup using the client). Today we released version 1.0.0.9 which includes an overhaul of how the program handles station information to allow it to better handle any changes to the Sirius web site. Remember that a major goal for this project is stability and we want the play to continue to function even if there are minor (or normal) changes made by Sirius.

Well, I finally got around to posting the inital release of SiNet. Note that there are going to be a few bugs (a couple for sure with Sirius Canada) so if you download this release please be sure to send me your bug reports.
