This crash seems to occur only if exactly one file is loaded.
Please check whether the crash still occurs with version 2.8.9 - I could not reproduce the bug here. If the bug seems to persist, send me a file producing the crash (use e-mail from the tar.bz2 archive).
After more extensive testing, the crash seems to be produced by a bug (or strange behavior?) which exists only in certain versions of the libXaw3d library. A functional work-around is given by xpaint-2.8.10-buggy-xaw3d.patch. The latter patch, which applies to 2.8.10, will also be included in the next versions of xpaint, as it does not harm non buggy installations.
