Do you have any intention of updating the ISO ? From reviews I've looked at you distro looks very promising but I'm a bit concerned with the ISO being over a year and a half old. Thanks
Hi Silent Robot! Excuse me if I write in this topic but you mentioned this thing and it worried me about installing Salient os on my computer... You say we must have a GPT partition table to install successfully. I Have a Windows installation that I want to keep, but I don´t know how to figure out whether my partition table is GPT or not... Could you help me? Thanks!
Hi, I´m new at Salient Os. I´m tryng to install it but when the installer comes to the partition choosing, only the USB drive with Salient iso is present... Any ideas? Thanks!
2 key issues in I3 after install and question on polybar config
found the culprit AMDVLK 2021.Q4.3 . Downgraded it to the Q4.2 and everything works again. This driver and the gamemode unlock the performance of my 6900xt card. I just add gamemoderun %command% to the start options of the game and the 6900xt runs great. Without gamemode the card stays in a reduced mode.
Downgraded all the Mesa, Xorg, Vulkan packages but still does it. The 3 games I play in Linux are PGATour2K21, Perfect Golf, and Pinball FX3 and they all do the same- show I'm playing but are never on screen then my status goes to Online. sam
After running the updates on 12/21/2021, any Steam game I try to play shows it's loading, shows that I'm playing it under my name on the Friends window but never loads on the screen and then the status under my name in Friends goes back to Online. Also in Pamac, Preferences there is no text in any of the boxes. Not sure if all this is a Vulkan issue, GTK, ? And the XFCE desktop takes about 10 seconds to load (but has done that since switching from an nVidia 2080ti to the AMD 6900XT back in June)...

Hi, Pamac doesn't appear to be present on install and not on the live version either; I followed the instructions on updating and that failed too...
i'm still working through the configuration files to see where, if it is my end, and Calamares configuration to see if a regression has crept in. I will notify as soon as i have a solution.
i still have this issue, both on kde and xfce. any fix in sight yet?
Any updates on this?
Yes...well I don't know how to use what's written there. I don't understand why the GUI that already exists fails.
This is what i've found for your scenario: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Direct_modem_connection#DSL_(PPPoE)

Silent Robot can you tell me please how I can fully install Salient OS on a USB and make it a persistent installation so what I create or install gets saved on the USB? I want to use the same USB on two systems and on both to use the best drivers. I have a APU on my desktop and on my laptop a intel GPU. I also want to minimize all possible unnecessary writes on the USB like it's recommended here https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Install_Arch_Linux_on_a_removable_medium Can you help me please?
Ah yes, well, i'm pleased you've resolved the issue.
Sorry to bombard with messages, based on your comment it's solved by making SIGLEVEL optional trustall (instead of trustedonly). We can mark this thread as solved, not sure there is an option here to do so.
thank you for checking. Yes I have an older release, what's the best way to replace with non-signed packages? Currently I removed salient-os from pacman.conf,, the only thingI'm really missing out on is salient-hooks, not sure if this is a vital piece. Everything else I could replace from the AUR
Did a clean reinstall -done.
Update-nouveau doesn't boot either. There's more going on here.
Hi Silent and peeps, I did a clonezilla restore from backup from 3 weeks ago after swapping a gpu card. restore was no problem, but there were numerous updates which I installed, resulting in the "FAILED to start lightdm" on boot. I have had this before and was never able to solve and did a fresh install. I don't want to do that again. I tried CTL+ALT+F1 and the mirror reflector fails, then it freezes on SMB daemon. I would really like to troubleshoot the lightdm in the console after the fail and...

Hello, I've been trying to install Salient OS Xfce, but none of the choices I made matter. Installation just ends up being a copy of the Live CD. What might be the cause?
The URL is correct for the repo. I am building from it now, packages are being pulled. Although it appears you have an older build(?) since i have not signed the packages for a while, for technical reasons. Try clearing your pacman cache: pacman -Scc then do pacman -Syy then pacman -Syu

Thank you. I still can't get to this URL, is this maybe a symptom of a different problem, maybe resolving $arch fails and the URL should be different?
Thanks i'll check, i did i update it yesterday

This is now fixed! what I found was was first that ttf fonts would throw up a error message on a new install/first update. Then errors appeared after a fresh install and once first error was corrected, at then first update the main key for signing. That was simple after a search .for the error I got, sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring.Problem solved Threw all this pamac would disappear.. That too has been fixed. Thanks for a great distro..Ken S
Sorry about that.it was a case of frustration resolved thing.My apoligies.Ken S
okay I have always admitted that I am new to arch but want to learn. So saying, why could you at least have said something.Yes I know this has been a learning xp but ahint would have been nice, hmm.
I seem to have fixed this temporarily by reseating LightDM to use default GTK greeter. Could be a DM-Xorg conflict? Since I'm able to see GRUB every time but screen goes black at login. Will investigate further.

pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring after using this the system will update normally,no errors when sudo pacman -Syu is used
Nope just got the same basic errors

I was wondering if I should just reinstall your OS.I'm using the July version. Not sure here as I have been trying to find answers but its a tangled up thing that is above my head here.Any leads or advice would be helpful.

all issues have now been corrected.Between Erik Dubois and pacman site, finally got everything worked out. Thanks
i did the updates again (sudo reflect sudo reflectuk sudo pacupd sudo pacupg) Next, I install Nvidia drivers. After reboot, it works now Thank you
Looking at the Arch Wiki there are a few suggestions. I'll link you directly to the page that will hopefully help. If you installed the drivers from within Calamares, you could try reinstalling them in this order: pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils Then reload the driver: modprobe nvidia Here's the page in question: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA/Troubleshooting#Blackscreen_at_X_startup_/_Machine_poweroff_at_X_shutdown
KDE version : black screen on restart after install and update
Yes sorry, this is due to a change in the package. If you manually remove those files first then run the update again it should be fine!

The easiest way would to be load the ISO in live mode. Open Panel Profiles and export the default. Save it to a USB key or Shared Folder on your host and then import it via Panel Profiles on your main machine.
I would very much like this too.
If you are talking about the information output when you open the terminal, in your file manager press ctrl+h to show hidden files. Then, open .bashrc in your home folder root and uncomment (remove the #) from the neofetch line at the end of the file.
In the file manager do CTRL + H to show hidden files. You'll see a .bash directory. Within that folder are a few prompt styles which you can source from the .bashrc file. Look at your .bashrc and see where the prompt is sourced from and change it to one of the others. You'll need to close and reopen Terminal to see the change!
The repo is live and active. Try: sudo pacman -Syy first. Also check that the salient-os repository is in your pacman.conf file.
Hi, not sure what is going on there the repo is live and active
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I too have noticed this and am looking into why this is. I'll get back to you shortly!
Spanish Language system not work, only English
You are very welcome. I am happy it is working for you now! Thank you!
Hi, today I install and all perfect. All SalientOS in Spanish language. Very grateful with your work, i like SalientOS. Thank you . :)
I've lost panel settings
Just to add, I don't believe the driver is working at all. Transparencies work, but there is definite tearing and other nasties. Also my refresh rate is locked to 77.
Nvidia issues
Hi, I just installed salient os xfce version and I am getting an error while trying to do sudo pacman -Syyu This is the error I'm getting: failed retrieving file 'salient-os.db' from salientos.github.io : Resolving timed out after 10000 milliseconds

Greetings Silent.I was wondering if you could point out a way for me to customize the terminal to reflect something similar to how it was 2 months ago. I remember seeing a video on how to do this, but my faulty memory can't remember where.Any tips would be appreciated. Ken S
Hi, I install today Iso salientos-kde-v21.03-x86_64.iso, and same results, no spanish language in all system. I uninstall SalientOS. I download ArcoLinuxOS Plasma edition new Iso arcolinuxb-plasma-v21.03.7-x86_64.iso. I install ArcoLinux and all my system in Spanish language perfect. I don't know what's the problem in SalientOS, but Spanish language not work, in ArcoLinux work perfect, all system in Spanish in ArcoLinux. Thanks for your time and sorry for the troubles. Best regards.
