#1 Connection attempt fails and server crashes

Have a Dell Latitude with Wireless 350 bluetooth interface installed. When I try to connect to the serial port, a fatal error is displayed saying: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object", and thereafter "The timeout period of the semaphore has expired" when the Bluetooth phone is switched off. When the phone is switched on and the Bluetooth interface of the Latitude displays the presence of a dialup modem on COM4, the server program displays a protection fault message upon attempt to connect, and then crashes.
