IMPORTANT
The RE-Tools package relies on StarUML version 1 as the underlying software. Please note that the latest StarUML 2 and above on staruml.io site is not architecturally backward compatible with StarUML v.1. Please make sure to install version 1 of StarUML using the link in step 1 below.

Additionally, to get the most desirable spacing control between nodes and links in the diagrams you create, it is important to closely follow the User Guide, especially on how to create and label modeling nodes.

To install RE-Tools on a Mac or Linux, click here to see additional instructions. Please note that RE-Tools has not been tested on a non-Intel Mac or Linux machine.

  1. Download StarUML v.1.
  2. Run the downloaded StarUML Setup Wizard (e.g., staruml-5.0-with-cm.exe) then follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Rename (or remove) "Contributors.xml" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\StarUML" folder to a different file name (e.g., "Contributors.xml.orig").
This file contains the names of the StarUML's contributors that are used as the default names for newly created model elements. However, without renaming or removing this file, these names could cause naming conflicts with RE-Tools-generated model elements.

  4. Download RE-Tools.

  5. Run the downloaded RE-Tools Setup Wizard (e.g., RETools3.0.2.msi) then follow the on-screen instructions.
