Hi Which version did you work with? The current version is 1.8.7.0. What did you do? Did you cancel the program? Did the program hang up? Only with further information can I search for a possible error. I have not received an error report with loss of backup for years. Regards Dieter
i just lost my live partition when the backup crashed. This utility is the worse I have ever encountered. It should be banned, nevertheless backup utility.
Just downloaded today's version of live-cd qt-fsarchiver. Loaded it to two 8G USB sticks using Mint's 'USB Image Writer' and 'Tuxboot'. Both sticks fail with the same error: "No operating system found", am I doing something wrong?

Well that's great for YOU but it proves nothing. I didn't turn off the power so you doing that is not the same thing and it's not likely to reproduce the problem. What I did was attempted to cancel the backup that I started. But now I don't remember exactly how. Perhaps I used the task manager to kill the process, I don't know. But the end result is that 99% of all of my files and directories were gone! So somewhere in your source code there is some REALLY problematic logic that enables files and/or...
The hard crash of the program is not so critical. I disconnected the connection to the usb hard drive and close the programm. I finished the program hard. I turned off the power. The root partition was not destroyed. The computer started allways without problems. I do not recommend doing these things!!
Fck. I've tried all kinds of different file recovery utilities. No go. The files are gone. WTF??? How can a backup utility destroy a drive worse than any virus or malware? Who writes code that can do this??? I could see maybe writing to the /tmp folder but what are you doing deleting ANY files? You can see the qt-fsarchiver was one of the few directories with files still present.

Oh my god! Please tell me I didn't just lose all my files. This was my first backup attempt and this happened, so I don't have any backup to restore! Is there any way to recover my files? Almost the entire partition is empty now. It's mostly just some empty directories. I am using Manjaro and qt5-fsarchiver. Please advise ASAP. Thanks!
AUR says the version is qt5-fsarchiver 0.8.4_6-1 so that is what I was using. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/qt5-fsarchiver On my system is also "fsarchiver 0.8.5-1" but I was not using that. But more importantly, is there any rescue tools that can help me recover my files?
I'm not sure, I don't remember, if I cancelled the backup or it just died by itself. I was using an external USB drive and maybe I bumped the cable and disconnected it? I don't know, it's possible. Or it's also possible I stopped the backup manually. I was doing other things and set the backup to work in the background. Is it possible this same bug happens if the drive gets disconnected? So the backup fails but the program does not terminate gracefully???
Do you know what happens under the hood with this bug? How on earth does it end up deleting all the files? I just lost my entire partition. There's nothing there but a bunch of empty directories.
The Arch repo says the version is "fsarchiver 0.8.5-1" AUR says, qt5-fsarchiver 0.8.4_6-1 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/qt5-fsarchiver Again, not sure which one was installed on my system. But more importantly, is there any rescue tools that can help me recover my files?
Here is the AUR page: Package Details: qt5-fsarchiver 0.8.4_6-1 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/qt5-fsarchiver The Arch repo says the version is "fsarchiver 0.8.5-1"

I make tomorrow a new iso-file and upload it. Sendest Du mir bitte Deine Mailadresse an mich. dieterbaum@t-online.de. Dann ist die Verständigung einfacher.
Is it okay if I install mdadmin in the live dvd? Yes, that is what I did in fact. I ran a "sudo apt update", then "sudo apt install mdadm", followed by a "sudo mdadm -A --scan". That worked nicely but is somewhat time-consuming and annoying because the apt update is running for several minutes on my machine. Do you use the german or the english version? English but German would work just as well for me. Are you building these images manually each time? It would be great if you could ensure that mdadm...
I do not know enough about Raid. Is it okay if I install mdadmin in the live dvd? Do you use the german or the english version? After your answer, I create a new iso-file with mdadm and upload it. I ask you to test the new live DVD. Regards
The latest version of the live image Live-xx-64-en-0.8.4-5.iso does not have mdadm. Could you please readd it? Thank you for this wonderful project.
