...because of a hdd failure. i hope to restore it somewhere this evening.
yet another year has passed, but unfortunately without major achievements. as always, thanks go out to anyone that downloaded, tried or used the engine :)
i'm also looking for a game/level designer that is willing and able to help put together 10-12 missions to be released with 1.0.0. if you are one or know one, please let me know.
written in august 2005, the article has been published in the may online issue of "Programation Sous Linux". yay! :)
the article in french may be found here:

seems the hosting server is back online. if it drops again, dont despair, the project lives on ;)
the server that hosts the project home page, my mail and other few thingies is down and it will stay down for awhile. questions (what about some feedback? :) related to the engine should be redirected to the project forums.
1. the tools documentation has been finished and it will be available in the next release. i postponed this for some time, maybe hoping that some happy user would be a good boy scout and help me. didnt happen. oh well.
2. a developer 101 will also be available in the next release. it was supposed to be an article for a magazine but didnt see the daylight. it contais several tutorials one how to add new unit types, how to script, explains the engine concepts and much more.... read more
it's been so long, indeed - 4 years of opensource :)
thanks go out to all the people that have supported this engine in any possible way - either by downloading it, trying it, writing feedback or contributing with code ;)
i was preparing a new release to celebrate this anniversary, but, unfortunately, time has not been kind. anyway, this new release will be hopefully made public in the next month and it will include a factory building, modal dialogs, save and load dialogs and more.
In short: 1 playable mission (Easy Recon) and two others showing battlegroup scripting, ecosystem generator in the map editor and several other small features and fixes. And, of course, some bugs that hopefully will be fixed for the next version.
See the full release notes here: http://aspc.cs.utt.ro/~karg/ppt/index.html
As with the previous releases, feedback is greatly appreciated and help is also greatly appreciated :)... read more
just a showcase mission to design and the engine will be available for download. a surprise will also be packed, so be sure to check with us :)
the second chunk of news following:
1. Curve2D finished. A set of classes containing code to generate 2d various curves (eliptical, polynomial, linear or provided by a script in csl) is ready. An object stream editor framework is also available, with the first application being the curve 2d editor. of course, it's not meant to compete math dedicated programs, but it provides enough functionality for the needs of the engine.... read more
i really hope i'll make that a practice - producing a monthly developement news :)
what's new on pptactical this month:
1. The engine was compiled with c++builderx.
And a project setup will probably be available in the next release. there were several small problems compiling it (the new borland ide is kind of puzzling in terms of options) and the compilation produced something like 200+ warnings, but in the end a nice exe was produced. aside from a cursor problem, everything else worked fine.... read more
finally! there are many changes from 0.9.0 and the package should be more stable than the prerelease.
next step is a 0.9.6 version and maybe will be out by the end of this year.
with a one year delay, a pre-release of 0.9.5 is out. it contains aircrafts (helicopters, fighters, dropships), scripting for aircrafts and animated (layered) buildings. there are also experimental sources for terrain generation and a particle system, unfortunately not integrated into the engine.
there are lots of changes made in the data files structure (because of the unix port) so maps, infantry/vehicles/statics data are not compatible with previous releases.... read more
well, the licence is now LGPL. hope you have fun using this engine ;)
0.9.5 release is very close to completion as the last features slip in :) i really hope to make a pre-release no later than end of august and a full release in october.
several new screenshots have been posted here:
http://aspc.cs.utt.ro/~karg/ppt/visual.html
we would really-really appreciate any kind of feedback from our users - in either bug-reports or features requests...
after one year of inactivity, we're back on track. using the SDL code developed some while ago by tamlin, i was able to port the engine to linux (i think it is a fedora running on an x86) with very few changes (most of them because g++ is more standar compliant than msvc or borland compilers).
in the same time, the engine was also compiled with Forte CC on a Solaris 8 (Sun Blade 150 machine) and the compilation was flawless. the io system support only little endianess, so the engine was not able to read the data files (this will be dealt with in the near future).... read more
due to lack of time, the next release is postponed until september/october 2003. maybe it will look 3D by that time ;)
The 0.9.5 is scheduled to be released in april/may 2003. It will contain three major features:
* aircrafts (dropships/fighters)
* layered/animated buildings
* tactical computer
It contains minor bugs fixes, mainly related to the map editor and a new test map.
Have fun.
Finally, it's here. And it has plenty of features. Like:
- vehicles (tanks, recon, transporters, artillery)
- vehicle scripting
- mission scripting
- ballistic projectiles
- altitude
- realistic missiles trajectory
- realistic view
- unit info area
- test mission
- infantry/vehicle/mission scripts
And, of course, some bugs were fixed.
With the mission scripting in place, it is possible to write quite complex mission scripts. One is provided in the package and it shows the possibilities of the engine.... read more
...will be available for the 0.9.0 and in the prerelease of 0.9.0 that will be available starting with 12 january.
...and a happy new year! :)
Design changes!
To support vehicles, design had to change. Also, the pathfinding algorithm is innapropriate for vehicles, so this one has to be changed too.
This means that the 0.9.0 will be released somewhere in january 2003. Maybe an intermediary version? Who knows...
Due to extreme development conditions, the 0.9.0 version is planned for release only for november 2002.
