I have tried the PLAC CD on two systems, but with only
50% success! :-(
The one that didn't work is a PIII, PCI system, with an
Intel 82801 BA Ultra ATA Storage Controller. Attempting
to mount the boot CD hangs, saying:
Welcome to PLAC
Attempting to mount /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 as CD-ROM
hdc: timeout waiting for DMA
ide_dmaproc: chipset supported ide_dma_timeout func only
14
... and then it just hangs. I hear the CD spped up and
slow down every ten seconds or so, but nothing useful
happens after that.
I note that Windoze inhibits DMA access to the CD drive,
and SuSE Linux 7.2 works fine "out of the box" on this
machine.
Hope this helps. Bob Jones
P.S. The "wrong" #! perl lines in some TCT scripts make
it difficult (but not impossible!) to use the TCT.
