Yet another looong period with little progress. This is the unfortunate fate of single-developer projects i fear.
However, all it not entirely dead. I have bee pecking a little at the template code to provide a better layout that scales better than the original v0.1a.
The main stumbling block for 0.2a is next - the get the database built through an install procedure. This should be relatively straight forward to deliver soon.
In the meantime, note that the SVN code is more updated that 0.1a, and for anyone looking for code bits to use, its recommended to visit the SVN.
The phpTaonomy blog, hosted here on SF will now be the main site for news and updates on the development of the project. Please check the blog by following the link to the project website.
Announcements of new releases will still occur in this news section.
Finally there is a little movement again on this project. Over the next months, the Subversion will be updated to reflect changes and updates to phpThaonomy. The work will focus on a number of core issued needed to improve this platform:
1) Address php4/5 issues (branch or retain php4 functionlity completely?)
2) Update existing plugins/utilities
3) Improve core security and role-based permissions and revise the user-role model across the site structure
4) Improve User interface functionlities. ... read more
After some long delays, the initial - and rough - copy of the code is now put on Subversion. The SQL to set up the database will follow shortly.
Good news! The first deployment of phpTaxonomy 0.2 is now live for the ZIMNES projecct. There was a number of issues to iron out as it is running on a windows server, so this has helped identify some critical areas that needed attention. This was the main reason for not releasing version 0.2 untill this site was funational. Now that it is up and running, the only think still in development for 0.2 is a general template design, and once that is finished the new release will be available on this site.
phpTaxonomy version 0.2 is in preparation for release. However, the current project where phpTaxonomy is being trialled has hit a delay, so version 0.2 will not be released until I can verify its stability on that project.
Apologies for anyone that may be waiting for this release, I anticipate it should be ready for release by late July.
The next release (0.2) of phpTaxonomy is now in preparation and should be available for download in approximately 2-3 weeks. This version will contain many improvements such as bibliographies, improved image handling, glossary, and installation procedure. A demo site will be set up shortly after release.
After a while with the obligatory "under construction" page I have finally got a website up and running. The site is mostly intended for general information about phpTaxonomy.
As a part of the site I'd like to have a showcase list, so if you will be running phpTaxonomy for something, please get in touch to be added to the list.
The new site is located at http://phptaxonomy.overchord.net
The first release of phpTaxonomy is here. This first release is very basic and is aimed at developers who are familiar with editing MySQL and PHP themselves. Currently there is no automatic installation or such like. If you are looking for a ready-to-use package, please have patience and wait the the beta releases.
Please use bug tracker or developer mailing list if you download this release and find bugs.
A temporary webpage is now established for phpTaxonomy on http://phptaxonomy.overchord.net
We noticed page hits were already being generated, so established this temporary page until a full site is ready.
We have now activated 3 mailing lists for phpTaxonomy in advance of our first upcomming release. The three lists available for users are:
phpTaxonomy-help (https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phptaxonomy-help) to aid users seeking to use phpTaxonomy on their own websites.
phpTaxonomy-updates (https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phptaxonomy-updates) for announcing new updates - initially of our development milestones and subsequently of modules to be added on.
phpTaxonomy-developer (https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/phptaxonomy-developer) for any developers interested in participating or contributing directly in the development of phpTaxonomy. ... read more
