A new release candidate for the monster 0.5.0 release is now available. This release fixes numerous bugs and stability issues. It also adds support for communication over the UDP protocol. An upgrade is suggested for all.
A half-year in the making, the first release candidate for the long waiting release has finally come! This release is a complete rewrite of the Peep monitoring software with much improved stability, feature enhancements, flexibility of architecture and more. The 0.5.0 series also features the introduction of themes - a peep portable drop-in configuration format. The sound repository has also been better organized. The 0.5.x series should finally make Peep a mature application.
While the 0.4.x series has stabilized quite nicely with 0.4.5, 0.5.x development is proceeding slow but steadily. So happy Peeping all and send any comments/suggestions our way.
Well, 0.4.5 is out the door, which fixes several of the installation issues and provides a port to BSD (specifically tested on FreeBSD). Several minor bug fixes have also been included.
The 0.4.4 has finally arrived and a LOT has changed client-side. An upgrade to the latest release is more than suggested as there's a lot of new, powerful functionality. Here's a peek at the changelog:
* From 0.4.3 to 0.4.4
* Install patch to fix gen_conf's grabbing of the
broadcast address and to install docs on 'make
install'.
* Server now displays version info on startup and
through cmdline options '-v' and '--version'
* API for creating custom clients has been finalized.
* Clients now support Email notification.
* Client section expanded:
* Pinger (host responsiveness)
* Vastly improved sysmonitor (now monitors processes
disk usage, and uptime).
* Updated and improved configuration format.
* Extensive documentation on creating custom clients.... read more
The nearly final version of the 0.4.4 client package is now availabe. Check out the Peep homepage for the announcement: http://peep.sourceforge.net
The Peep 0.4.4 clients are almost ready and we're working on getting the release out to you guys. However, we need some people to take the clients for a test-drive to ensure that we have a solid release.
Check out the big announcement on the Peep homepage at http://peep.sourceforge.net
So here we are at 0.4.3! And it's good :) Upgrades are recommended for all as many improvements were made client-side as well as some server side improvements.
In other news, work on 0.5.x is also started. So if you're interested, hop on the developers list and give us a shout.
Due to an error in the build process, the 0.4.2 release had a major bug. So we're gonna fix that with a quick 0.4.3 release, which will fix some other bugs as well.
Alrighty! The 0.4.2 release has now been made available. The release includes some solid bugfixes as well as some substantial improvements to the client libraries. I encourage you all to download the new release.
Changelog:
* Scheduler code has been integrated into the client library code base
* Several bugfixes including bugs #440590 and #439881
* The pinger module has been added into the distro, although its not yet functional
... in the patch tracker. The patch is some drop in code files for the 0.4.1 source and fixes an autodiscovery bug. The patch is recommended for all users.
Well, summer time is here and yup, that means that everybody is out and about. So things are gonna be a little hap-hazard for a while 'round here but should pick up again towards the end of the summer. In the mean time, happy peeping all.
We should be getting out the 0.4.2 release out soon. We're just putting in the finishing touches. The new release will include many fixes and improvements to the montoring clients.
We've recently adopted the PEPs idea from Python for managing Peep proposals for upcoming versions. To find out more, visit the homepage at http://peep.sourceforge.net.
at we're still getting the version 0.4.1 client libraries up on CPAN. Because we're switching the modules namespace (into the Net::*) namespace, things are taking a little longer than expected. Everything should be in working order by latest May 1st. In the meantime, modules can still be built using the instructions in the <src>/client directory. And it's easy too :)
Just got the 0.4.1 release out. The release includes changes to the client to make them more compatible with CPAN, client bugfixes, and some slight changes to the server code. Check out the changelog for more details.
Despite the delay, we finally got the 0.4.0 release together with all the promised features. This is a pretty big release - LOTS of things changed since 0.3.8, and an entire new client code base since the pre-release. Check out the ChangeLog for details!
The new sound repository is now available. Sounds are now classified according to themes as well as categories. Index files have also been included, containing sound descriptions.
We almost have everything ready for the 0.4.0 release but we're delaying the release a few days to make sure we get in all the features forecasted for the 0.4.0 release as well as better quality code. In the meantime, rest assured we're working hard.
Thank you. This has been a recording.
In anticipation of the upcoming March 25th release date for Peep 0.4.0, we've made a pre-release available so users can experiment with new features as well as get a preview of the many changes/bug-fixes since 0.3.8. Most everybody will want to download this pre-release as the code is more stable and also includes many bugfixes. So, please download, experiment, and enjoy!
We're setting March 25th as our release date for the next major version of Peep. In the meantime, we should be doing a pre-release of 0.4.0 at some point during this week...
We're hoping to get the 0.4.0 series in Mid-March. Some new features will include the ability to record events and do playback as well as an experimental GUI to provide visual to re-enforce what you're hearing and make monitoring easier.
RPM versions are now available thanks to Vibechild. Sorry for the delay all!
Some minor changes made - most noteably that command line options can now be specified in peep.conf, which makes configuring smoother.
Also, version 0.4.x of ALSA will be supported until 0.6.x is released (or so suggests the ALSA guys). This means that peepd will not compile when trying to use ALSA drivers on newer RedHat versions. Just use /dev/audio support by doing a configure --with-device-driver
