I can't say that a fully grasped your setup. But it's really nice! As the UCA222 has audio inputs it may be that this is a Windows recording (so called Capture) device. So is this device mentioned on the Capture tab of the Configurator of Equalizer APO? If it's not present then unfortunately the UCA222 is routing the input audio stream internally (without Windows). The only way is to EQ it before it's input into the UCA222. I can save the session as a APO config file named EQOne.txt and place it...
I have a Behringer U-Control UCA222 audio interface. This a 2 channel external device with RCA line inputs(L & R) RCA line outputs(L &R). along with a USB connection. Windows see this device as a sound card. I can assign the outputs of any media player to the UCA222 and it works. I can set peace Equalizer to the UCA222 s a device. I can adjust the equalizer(Peace) and the sound at the UCA222 is modified. I can save the session as a APO config file named EQOne.txt and place it in the correct APO folder....
Indeed there are some drawbacks to consider. Good luck.
Might conflict with the minimize to tray, and then there's still not closing Peace before shutdown/restart, and it will still load the EQ in the backend on restart. It's ok man, don't worry about it. I'll just work around it : )
No problem. I could consider a setting which loads a neutral (empty) EQ and effects config at closing Peace. But it would be specific for those who want to deactivate an EQ when closing Peace.
I see, well I guess that'll have to do then. I was hoping there would be another option to not load any EQ. Thanks for the response!
As Equalizer APO is doing the audio manipulation Peace doesn't need to be active whilst still applying the current EQ and effects. That's just the nature of Equalizer APO and Peace makes use of that. In other words, for most users it's quite nice that Peace doesn't need to be active. However, in your case you want the opposite. You don't want to have any EQ (and maybe effect?) applied at PC startup. So Equalizer APO must be instructed at startup to do nothing. To achieve that you need to run Peace...
It seems Peace is always running, even when not enabled to load at startup and doesn't show up in tray. This is easily visible because Peace EQ adjustments are visible in REW after a fresh restart without loading Peace (either Restart or fresh boot). When Peace is enabled, closed, restart Windows. Startup does not have Peace in it. Peace seems to not be running (no icon in tray) but the EQ adjustments show up in REW. Starting Peace, turning it off, restart. Startup doesn't show Peace, peace doesn't...
Great. And thanks for testing.
That looks good to me and the bug is fixed. Thank you so much for the quick turnaround, will make EQing my headphones that little bit easier! 😀
Here's that beta (version 1.6.7.1). Download this Peace.exe file and copy it to c:\program files\equalizerapo\config, overwriting the former version. I hope the function keys will perform properly. Indeed these keys can be handy.
Awesome, thank you Peter! I would use numbers and letters, but the function keys are seldom used by me. Thus it makes more sense for me to use these instead. Will keep an eye out for that beta.
Indeed this issue hasn't been reported. It looks like the one you're referring to but it's a new issue concerning the usage of the function keys F1 to F12. In other words, I can confirm this issue. I don't use function keys as hotkeys so during the adding of the hotkey selection list feature (version 1.5.9.1, February 2021) to the Save configuration interface I seemed to have forgotten to test these keys also. Anyway, I've corrected the bug and I'll make a beta version for you to download. Thanks...
This issue has been ongoing for a while now and it looks like no one has reported it recently! Every time I save an existing configuration (and hence overwrite it), the hotkey assigned to it automatically stops working. Initially, the hotkey shows as <f12> next to a configuration for example when it works, but then it changes to <{F12}> immediately after saving and the hotkey doesn't work any more. Saving it again removes the hotkey assignment altogether.</f12> Is this an issue you can reproduce?...
Good to know you've managed to get ypur mic back. You're welcome (graag gedaan).
I reset my PC a few more times after the fact and my mic is working now! Thanks again for all your help Peter. Dankjewel!

Appears my microphone in registry editor shows up as {b6b952ea-ca80-46ed-a262-b0253ec1dbf0}, And under FxProperties it has the {d04e05a6-594b-4fb6-a80d-01af5eed7d1d} key like you said before, would I be good just deleting everything from top level FxProperties(Like the whole 'registry directory' if I could even call it that)
Markdown didnt like the link, https://imgur.com/a/Ke4WeSa
Ive set DisableProtectedAudioDG back to 0, and im looking now to try and get the UUID for the specific headset so I can reset whatever values are there ( {d04e05a6-594b-4fb6-a80d-01af5eed7d1d} was non-existent, which could also be another reason for it not picking it up)
It's very odd that a mic isn't picking up anything then ambient static. That seems to suggest that the mic is broken or the app isn't referring to the mic. What recording/streaming app are you using? Or better said, does the mic in any other app? It seems you did the proper thing by uninstalling and rebooting a few times. Sorry, I don't have a link to a mic audio driver. But we have to assume it's still a software issue, mainly a driver not resetting. But it could be that Equalizer APO wasn't uninstalled...
Currently my mic produces ambient static and nothing else. I have a Webcam microphone that picks up sound just fine, although I didnt use it for the EQ APO install.
Is there any other steps you can think of for the Windows Default Mic Driver Reinstall? Ive uninstalled the device from Device Manager, and hard rebooted my machine multiple times and the driver still has yet to reset. I tried looking on Microsoft forums and couldnt find anything of substance. Do you happen to have a direct link to the main device driver, or another way of going about resetting it?
I'm looking forward to it. Thank you for your consideration. =)
That's true. But as it's an upmix it also should be tested on a real 7.1 setup, I guess. Well, I'll also get feedback after releasing it.
Good. I use a 7-channel personal HRIR, so I can test it at any time. In fact, people using a generic commonization file should be able to test this as well, as it's more of a test of channel distribution in the upmix than a change in response.
I'll see what I can do. If you're able to test it as I don't have a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.
Thank you for reviewing my request positively without prejudice. Please let me know if some features are implemented in beta. Looking forward to it!
But it's not a convolver of an artificial river-breed impulse response, so there's not going to be anything unpleasant or loud that's close to clipping, or distortion. This distortion is sometimes present when EQ-ing with convolution (so called GraphicEQ in Equalizer APO). Unfortunately, we aren't sure when this distortion happens and what's causing it. It could be that a wrong EQ convolution file is made or that Equalizer APO's convolution has a bug. The later is bad as I don't like to take the...
Thanks for reply. Yes. I've used it before. You're right what you said, it's going to vary depending on the frequency range. (for side and rear channel) I've used convolution myself, but as you know, it's pretty hard to manage a lot of Copy virtual channel phrases and them within APO. (You can save them as txt files, of course.) But I thought it would be better if it was implemented within the peer because it could be operated with one button. And I also understand your concern about convolution....
Just as im sure you are a music and sound snob, Im a front end snob I'm also front end snob and not a music/sound one, although I've created my own music and now know a lot of audio/sound stuff. I've programmed a few things in .NET, for instance a music player (which I haven't released due to some major issue). It's so much not like any UI, certainly Peace. I guess you're right. It can be bland if one doesn't take the time or the effort. Btw. Behind the main Peace window there are so many other windows...
I know .NET programming UI can be quite bland so dont take my feedback as super critical.
Thank you for the Speedy reply Peter, Ill look into resetting the Windows Default Mic Driver, as well as the Default Headset Driver as well. Just as im sure you are a music and sound snob, Im a front end snob😅 IMO the simple interface still is quite complex, although thats just coming from one without any sound/production experience. I loved your documentation on YT and am sad I couldnt get Peace/EQ APO to work with my setup, but as I said before thanks again!
I get what you're pointing at. It would be handy if Equalizer APO was updated a few times per year. Unfortunately we only had a few updates in the past 12 years of its existence. Besides, Equalizer APO hasn't changed in years. Even going from 1.2.1 to 1.3.2 was only a bug fix of its Configuration Editor and a dark mode for this editor. Knowing this, it isn't really worth to create such a feature but the idea isn't bad. So I'll put it on the Peace wish list. Also, a longer update window setting, such...
update EqAPO check
I'm wondering, did you take a look at the surround sound feature of Peace? It's available under the Surround button at the Effects panel. It's also a pretty good attempt of an upmix/surround sound. The phase shift of an all pass filter depends on the set frequency. This means several all pass filters need to be used as Dogway also does. But it will be a mix of all phase shifts of these filters between 180 to -180 degrees. I guess that Dogway also has created this 90 degrees phase shift by using convolution....
I'm sorry to read about your bad experience. Sometimes Equalizer APO doesn't work out of the box or worst after uninstalling it the audio device, mic in your case, doesn't work or work properly any longer. This is almost always caused by the microphone device driver not being reset properly. In this case it isn't the driver of your headset as there wasn't one provided. It's the standard Windows USB microphone device driver that needs a proper reset, well at least (see comments below). Did you specifically...
Scouring forums, found so many reddit threads with people saying that it ruined their audio and microphones and with 0 solutions. My Mic came without any drivers. There wasnt any warnings anywhere to speak of anywhere during the install process.
https://www.amazon.com/EKSA-Surround-Headphones-Canceling-Compatible/dp/B07XHGLSGF This is the link to my headphones, Ive never been a sound snob, but seriously, If I have to by another headset because the app borked my current pair I will be enraged beyond belief
Hello, I installed this Application because my friends would always say that it was hard to hear me(I am soft spoken and dont talk loudly). I installed both Equalizer APO along with Peace. My Mic would work fine before, just sometimes it wasnt sensitive enough to pick up my voice. I wasnt able to do anything with the App, I tried turning up the Pre amplifing and only heard loud noises, but it wouldnt pick up my voice. Only a really loud VOOM VOOM VOOM would be produced by my microphone. Afterwards,...

I can investigate this. I'm not that familiar with complex upmix methods but just adding an all pass filter to the existing Peace upmix feature isn't that difficult to do. I'm guessing here that this all pass filter needs to be applied to the side and rear channels.
Request : Improvement of Upmix (2.0 to 5.1 or 5.1 to 7.1 or 2.0 to 7.1) with Phase Shift https://sourceforge.net/p/equalizerapo/discussion/general/thread/be4bf9de29/ Applying a 90 degree phase shift based on the known band would give us a better upmix. It would be nice if all the convolutions were applied with a single button in the GUI of peerace (such an all-pass filter has almost no delay) A custom filter statement within the APO, such as how many virtual channels you allocate (for example, L0.7+S0.3),...

Thank you Peter for you detailed answer, I understand it now a lot more. Well....Windows itself might not do the job for audio...great there is APO & Peace! Again, thanks for your help and your development of Peace,
So, lets say I increase the 4kHz with +5dB for the front left speaker then for every enabled device the left speaker is affected? Exactly. Of course it's odd but by default only 1 output and 1 input device is selected in Windows so only those 2 are actually being EQ-ed. Selected another device and then this one is EQ-ing. Knowing this leaving it on "Alle apparaten" isn't only fit for easy starting with Peace. Let's say I have 2* Peace running like you described. Only 1 instance of Peace can be run....
Wow....great write up to explain things Peter, thank you! So....am I correct with this?: On the main page, where I can select for which device I want the EQ: when I select "Alle apparaten" it will do all devices that are enabled with the main program EQAPO? So, lets say I increase the 4kHz with +5dB for the front left speaker then for every enabled device the left speaker is affected? Now I understand your question you did ask : this is the list of speakers: This is how my motherboard looks like:...

I think I get your confusion of things. I see that the Peace devices list is on "Alle apparaten". That doesn't mean that the speakers interface will show the total of all speakers of all devices, so all output and input jacks. The speakers interface is always per device, even if "All apparaten" is set. That's a bit confusing of course so an example is needed to explain this properly. Say you have checked only "Links" and the devices list says "Alle apparaten", this means that the equalization is...

those checkboxes you talk about are not available for the (main) left and right output for my USB device. Could you make a screenshot of the speakers interface that doesn't have the left and right checkboxes? Btw. They are greyed out when the "All" checkbox is checked. The speakers interface should always have 1 "all" checkbox and 8 other checkboxes (which may be greyed out and will come available after unchecking the all checkbox). The only solution I can come up with (has nothing to do with Peace...
Thank you Peter for your reply. Well...it isn't going to work I hear you say so that's it....but : those checkboxes you talk about are not available for the (main) left and right output for my USB device. But may-be it isn't because it's already 'occupied' by the motherboard soundcard. However...if it isn't possible then well....end_of_thoughts :-) The only solution I can come up with (has nothing to do with Peace or Apo) is to make a small hardware mixer mixing both outputs from the motherboard...
If we look at the picture in my first post we see the outputs from 2 devices : That's not the way Windows, Equalizer APO or Peace work. All shown speakers are only for one device or every device (including mics) if the default "All devices" is selected. The speakers interface isn't for selecting or redirecting audio onto another device than the selected one. It's just for specifying which speaker or combi of speakers must be equalized. But the main Le/Ri of the external USBsoundcard are not shown...

Is the "Prevent clipping" checkbox checked? It's at the right of the peak value meter (below the sliders). When clipping occur the pre amp slider is reduced automatically to prevent this clipping thus preventing distortion.
Pre-Amplifying Slider
Unfortunately there's a bug in version 1.6.6.0. If you will you could download the beta version 1.6.7 from my Dropbox. After downloading Peace.exe copy it to c:\program files\equalizerapo\config, overwriting the existing Peace.exe.
The latest version of Peace has surfaced the balance control to the main screen (good!) But it now resets to center each time Peace is restarted. It can't be saved. I consider this a (minor) bug. Due to my hearing issues, I always set balance at the same point. Would like to be able to save it there. thx,
In principle to boost your volume over the 100% limit of Windows the Peace pre amplifier slider is the one to use. In normal circumstances there's no need to use DynamiQ. Windows itself compresses the audio when cranking it up to high, trying to prevent distortion. But it may be that the Reacomp (Reaper compression) VST plugin does a better job. DynamiQ uses this plugin. Both can be used, Peace and DynamiQ. But you need to install Peace first then add DynamiQ as instructed, preferably after the Include:...
Does DynamiQ-master Work With Peace? If so, which program has precedence. Do I need both? Thank you.
Thanks Chuck for your input. I'm not sure what opamp rolling means in the context of the Peace equalizer interface. In principle one can make several Peace configurations and switch between them. And if an opamp has specific features perhaps those can be mimicked with the features Peace offers for building (Peace) configurations. There is already a surround feature in Peace but this might not be what you're talking about or not exactly what you propose. Anyway, this feature can be found under the...
I have a suggestion and I do not know if this is even possible but... What about an option for "OpAmp Rolling"?? Different OpAmps would sound different. Some with better center staging, some with more highs and clarity, and others with more bass. Based on say, OPA1656, Burr Olsen, etc. Also what about a simulated surround feature. Say a 3.1 not Dolby because of obvious licensing issues. Like a fake surround for tv shows or a "Midnight mode" which would compress the sounds so that when watching movies...
That's right. But it isn't difficult to do in Peace either. You just need to know how. A few clicks and you're done. So no need for constant preset switching.
Unfortunately it isn't always possible (or not possible) in Windows to output the sound to 2 or more devices. But this you have to google this. There is for instance the Windows mixing device (a virtual one) but I'm not familiar on its capabilities. And talking about virtual devices, VoiceMeeter does have these too. Perhaps with this and/or others audio directing apps it is possible to direct the sound to more than 1 output device. Anyway, if you get it to work then it should be possible to use Peace....
So I am trying to use my headphones in addition to my guitar amp which would be set as a subwoofer. My headphones currently go through a Focusrite Solo and my motherboard has 3 audio outputs. What I want to do is have the full audio range to go to my Focusrite and then also have only the bass frequencies sent to the guitar amp. I would like to find a way to: A. Have two devices playing audio at the same time B. Mirror the audio for the two channels C. Have all the frequency range go to the headphones...
This is a late reply, but for anyone who is looking to sove the same problem - just use the APO editor directly without PEACE. APO has the ability to assign preset to a specific device and it does not require automation and constant preset switching that PEACE does. If you are happy with your settings and presets, then you don't really need PEACE anyway. The APO will work regardless.
No problem. Great to hear that it does work in your case :) Let me know if/when it fails, I mean, in what circumstance.
Thanks very much! It works as expected! Really appreciate your work!
For the next version the labels "on" and "off" are used for the "Stereo detection" switch. That's less confusing then in the beta 1.6.7.1.
I've implemented your idea. if you will you can download the beta version 1.6.7.1 to check it out. Download this Peace.exe file to c:\program files\equalizerapo\config, overwritting the existing Peace.exe. Remember that the detection of the channels such as stereo doesn't always work. But it might in your case! To switch detection on go to the Surround effects window and set "Stereo detection" to "Detect". By default this is off for backward compatibility.
Well, I have to thank you for messing around! I did found a bug with the balance slider on the main screen. After closing Peace and starting it, it didn't reflect the former (saved) state of the balance setting. The balance slider and knob (on the Effects panel) were set to another value, in your case to the right. It should have set to 0 after you have set to this value. In this beta version 1.6.7.1 I've corrected the bug. Download the Peace.exe file and copy it to c:\program files\equalizerapo\config,...
Thanks for the information and yes maybe to much lol i miss around with it and see how i can do with it now that i got balance back the way it should be !!

I don't see anything wrong in your peace.txt although it's far easier to see what's going on when you send "Last configuration.peace" or one or more saved .peace files. I do see some upmixing and downmixing going on. Nothing wrong with that. Perhaps a bit too much functionality in one config?
