The purpose of the Painter's Colour Assistant Tool Kit is to provide painters with a method for experimenting with mixing paints and planning a palette for a painting. In particular, those artists who use digital photographs as references for their paintings should find it particularly useful as samples from such photographs (obtained using tools such as Linux's screenshot) can be pasted into the mixing area to facilitate matching colours.

This tool differs from conventional colour tools in that colours are created by mixing paints together in different proportions (rather than selecting the colours directly). Obviously, how well this will help a particular painter depends on how well the actual paints that they use are represented in the program. To this end a Tube Series Editor is provided (as part of the tool kit) to enable painters to create/edit their own tube colour series/sets for use within the program.
