Would it be possible to place diffent text in different fonts. For example, our Church uses opensong for the entire service which includes places where the congregation responds. I would like to have the priests words in black and the congregation words in red.

Have you considered using the second language feature for this? You needed to save these (what are the called?) as songs, not as custom slides. As these readings are probably fixed lithurgy anyway, keeping them around for later reuse will be a benefit, rather than a drawback.
Other that this, yes, we have considered it, as it has been requested before, but no, we have currently no plans to implement it, because in combination with automatic font scaling and breaking lines while still making sure, everything still fits on the slide is rather challenging, and adding yet more fonts will complicate things quite a lot more.
Maybe we should consider creating an option to use a different style for entire lines, as with the second language. This would be considerably easier to implement than font changes in the middle of a line e.g. in order to highlight a single word or phrase.
There are other options, though, with which you can present such a thing
- Use Impress or PowerPoint
- use whatever you like and make a screenshot, then include the screenshot in OpenSong
- maybe someone wants to have a go at creating an external renderer for this kind of thing.
