OpenEats releases first Release Candidate

The PHP OpenSource recipe management site is proud to announce the first release candidate.
We are one step closer to the first 1.0 release of OpenEats. This release hopes to fix a major issue that the project has had since day one. It is hard to install for your average user. The previous release introduced a new installer that was to help with this issue, sadly it didn't work in most cases. We have started all over again with a brand new installer that has been fully tested. This new installer should install OpenEats in almost all envioremnets that can run PHP. The install documentation has also been re-vamped making it easier to follow along. Besides the installer several bugs have been fixed that have been reported by the community. If you haven't been able to install older releases of OpenEats and still want to try, this is the release for you! You can download this at SourceForge.net Please give it a try and report any issues you have in the forums.

First Beta out the door

Finally after many months, the first beta of 1.0 for OpenEats is being released. OpenEats is a Opensource project for recipe management, powered by the symfony PHP Framework. This first release of our beta introduces several new features since the last release along with a lot of bug fixes, and a new installer. I have also made it a bit more compatible for running out of a subdirectory instead of a virtual host. A new blog has been started at http://openeats.wordpress.com so that I can keep everyone updated on the going ons of OpenEats. I will also use it to solicit info on what needs improved or added.... read more

Feature Freeze almost to 1.0

OpenEats a recipe management website built on the PHP symfony framework has entered the "feature" freeze stage of development. This puts us one step closer to releasing 1.0. The only things left are creating a web-based installer, skinning it with a new professional theme, and bug testing. Work has already begun on the installer and we are searching to hire someone to give OpenEats a new look. Once a test version of an installer is ready, look for Release Candidates to help us fight of any remaining bugs.

Onward to 1.0

I wanted to provide an update to everyone on the status of OpenEats. The summer months have caused a slow down in development for I have been spending time enjoying the weather. However never fear, most of the major features of OpenEats are complete. The two major things that remain, are the installation wizard, and the Admin interface. We should be ready to release the first release candidate this fall.

OpenEats 0.6.9 Release Last release till 1.0

OpenEats, an OpenSource recipe management web site built on the symfony PHP framework has released a new version.

This version adds features and fixes small bugs with the menu module.
The last version of OpenEats till the 1.0 release has been released today.

The decsision has been made to make 0.6.9 the last release till the final release, in order to allow us to spend more time adding the finishing touches to OpenEats. With only one full time developer it takes a lot of time to develop, and put out quality releases. At this point most of the features are in OpenEats, they just need added to and polished up a bit. This version of OpenEats, introduces the Grocery Module, you can now create grocery lists. The grocery module is still in its infancy and will expand by thte time the 1.0 release comes around. This releases also fixes some issues with the Headline module and cleans up the form validators.

OpenEats Releases Version 0.6.7

OpenEats, an OpenSource recipe management web site built on the symfony PHP framework has released a new version.

In this version several small bugs have been fixed that were pointed out to me in the forums.
Instructions and a .htaccess file have been added to allow a user to run OpenEats out of a common directory instead of having to setup a virtual host
The recipe edit page has been improved thanks to Chad Parry who provided the suggestion and the code
You can now add recipes to your own custom menu this menu can also be added to the recipe planner.

New Host

OpenEats has moved to a real host provider. Which should allow for more stable uptime of the main site.

For awhile now I had been running the OpenEats.org site on my Mac Pro. This caused a lot of down time, since any time I rebooted OpenEats would be down. In prepartaion for the 1.0 release ( in the next few months I hope) I decided to move OpenEats to a VPS host proivder Slicehost

I have just finished the migration of OpenEats to the new server. The development site dev.openeats.org which contains the development code prior to being released, will still run on my Mac Pro. This site is the current copy of the code that is in the SVN repository so you can see and play with what I am working on. This site will be very unstable so don't expect it to always be up and running.

OpenEats Version 0.6.6

OpenEats, an OpenSource recipe management web site built on the symfony PHP framework has released a new version.

In the past releases have been hit or miss when it comes to installing or upgrading. I suppose it is because one person is doing a lot of the work on this project and I didn't have time to pay close attention to bundling up the release. I am now going to test both a clean install and an upgrade install with every release prior to releasing it. This will add days to getting a new release out but hopefully it will catch all the issues users have been having. This release fixes a few bugs with the install of the last release such as not having the proper SQL file to create the database. I have also added small enhancements to the recipe planner.

Meal Planner Added

OpenEats, an OpenSource recipe management web site built on the symfony PHP framework has released a new version.

This release adds the basic Meal Planner feature. You are able to schedule recipes on to your own meal planner. A few bugs that where discovered in the last release are also fixed in this release. Chad Parry's code to keep the sequence of ingredients in the same order as you entered them when you created the recipe has also been added to this release.

New Release 0.6.4(CPerry)

OpenEats, an OpenSource recipe management web site built on the symfony PHP framework has released a new version.

This is a bug fix, and enhancement release. Very little of this relase was actually done by me. This is the first release ever where I have not done 100% of the code. A user of OpenEats spent many hours/days working on patches to make OpenEats better and from his hard work spawned a new release.... read more

First Public Release

The OpenEats team is proud to announce the first public release of our software for everyone to try out. The software is far far from done, in fact it really is only 15% complete. However we felt now was the time to allow people to start playing with it so we can hear what you think along with telling us of any bugs you may find along the way. You can take it for a test drive at http://oecode.openeats.org To let us know what you think please register an account at http://www.openeats.org or send us a message through Sourceforge and post in the forums. Thank you.
