I just came to see if open camera supports QR code which it seem it does not. I am disappointed as I wanted to replace the default camera app. Looks like I will be keeping the default app..

Android 13 onwards supports QR code scanning direct from a quick tile (the tiles in the pull-down notification bar), as far as I can tell this doesn't rely on the stock camera app.
If you want to do it direct from Open Camera, it seems Google's new "circle to search" functionality now supports QR codes (long press home button, the circle round the QR code - I tested this works on my Pixel 6 Pro).

Re doing this when locked, the QR code scanning quick tile can be used from lock screen (and presumably doesn't use up any lock screen "slots" - note that seems to be a manufacture specific feature anyway, stock Android doesn't allow launching third party cameras from the lock screen anymore unfortunately).
