Version 1.50.1

Version 1.50.1 is released!

  • This includes support for Android 12's camera vendor extensions. This allows device specific custom effects such as night mode, bokeh, beauty to be exposed to third party applications. To enable, make sure Open Camera's Settings/"Camera API" is set to "Camera2 API", and if supported, you'll see extra photo modes available under the popup menu (three-dots icon), e.g., "X-NIGHT" for night mode. Note that the behaviour of these modes is entirely up to the device, and that many options (e.g. zoom) are not available. Also note this requires both Android 12+, and that the device support camera extensions. Supported devices include Pixel 6 (Pro) (for night sight only) and the Galaxy S series from S10 onwards.

  • Improved support for devices with multiple camera devices, where extra cameras are exposed via zooming in and out (e.g., Pixel 5/6). This means the device will automatically switch between ultra-wide, standard and telephoto cameras by zooming in and out.

  • Removed the "use addresses" and "say cheese" options. Sorry about that, but this is due to new data privacy requirements on Google Play: data transmitted off device requires developers to disclose certain information such as whether it's encrypted, and whether users can delete it. For these optional features I used standard Android APIs, but information did not seem to be available for these APIs to satisfy the data privacy requirements, as far as I could tell. I submitted a bug report for this ( https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/207227852 ) but at the time of writing the information still does not seem to be available, and the deadline for completing the data privacy form is soon.

  • Now targetting Android 12. For remote control device options, new bluetooth permissions are used instead of requiring location permission.

  • Fix for HDR photos coming out black on some Samsung Galaxy devices with Android 12. Also added a new debug option Settings/Photo settings/"Enable dummy capture HDR/expo fix". Please enable this if you are having problems with HDR or expo bracketing mode on Samsung Galaxy devices with Android 11+ (specifically if some expo images come out with the same exposures).

  • Fixed problems with flash on Camera2 API for various devices. Also fixed problems with expo, HDR and long manual exposures on some devices (e.g., Pixel 6 Pro).

...and more. See https://www.opencamera.org.uk/history.html for a full history.

Same here with my Galaxy J7 Star. Green photo mania in all modes on manual exposure/shutter but not on auto.

It's dissapointing that the address stamp on the photos was removed. It was a great feature to have. We own a pool cleaning business and our customers liked seeing the actual address in the proof of service photos.

Sorry about that - I was annoyed to have to remove it too after having put in the work to add it, and as you say it is useful. Unfortunately Google don't seem to have considered such issues when adding their requirements for the "data safety" form.

Po odstranění adresního razítka, tuto aplikaci mažu. Již je k ničemu. Zvláštní je, že v jiných aplikacích to funguje.

After removing the address stamp, I delete this application. It's no use anymore. The weird thing is that it works in other apps.

As I say, this is due to new Google Play rules. If other applications have this feature, then either:

      • They have an offline method to look up addresses (potentially something I can use, but I'm not aware of such a database I can use).
      • They are using a server that discloses information so that the Google Play data safety section can be filled in.
      • They haven't added the info on transmitting location to remote servers to the Google Play data safety, or they've guessed when providing the information (potentially a violation of Google Play rules).

Mark, you know you can release an especial build here with the features Google forbid, right?

You that's true, it is a possibility - although there's the overhead of building/releasing separate versions, so I haven't done so yet.
